Description
Hull st seems to be a forgotten street in Ansonia. First off Hull St near the rt 8 overpass has seem to become the second transfer station in the town because it is littered with garbage and glass that never seems to get cleaned up, combine that with the amount of weeds and brush that are overgrowing into the street and the lack of no sidewalks it's impossible to actually walk on the street without being in the middle of traffic. Also multiple curbs have been ripped up by plows the lengths of houses and have never been replaced. Storm drains are severely sinking into the ground collecting water around them allowing for pour drainage. Cars continually run the stop signs through the intersection at Hull/silver hill at 25 mph plus and never is there any sort of police patrol in the neighborhood even with the fact that there have been car/home break in's. For the cost of living in Ansonia with one of the highest mill rates you would expect more. No wonder people wanna move out and the value of properties continues to decline.

I was surprised to see this post. I live in the area and do not observe the same conditions. Yes, there are a few properties that could be better-kept (the former KO Club, the two on each corner of Hull at Silver Hill RD and the multi-family set back by the RT 8 overpass all would benefit from a little more pride of ownership) but the area looks nothing like a second "Transfer Station". That's a ridiculous analogy.
There is no indication of Hull St being "forgotten" by the city. The paving and drainage is good and the city always does a really good job plowing and sanding this road all the way up Silver Hill to the Derby section. Yes, a couple of curbs were damaged this winter and need repair but the catch basins are not "sinking". They are designed to collect water.
The only section I can see your point about is the area of the overhead electrical transmission wires where there has been occasional dumping and people with dogs use the corner as a dog park. The grass and brush is overgrown here and along the RT 8 abutments, but again, that's not the city's responsibility nor is it blight under most town ordinances. The utility company is responsible for their right-of-way under the transmission lines and the state DOT takes care of the embankment up to the highway. Maybe you can get in touch with the owners of these strips and get them to mow the grass?

Okay. Sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner fronting that section. Streets are swept by citys 1-2x / year. Off the road is the responsibility of the property owner.
If a passing car throws a bottle out of their window and glass smashes or any variety of other trash, I usually go out and clean it up before someone gets hurt. How about you? What's your responsibility as a homeowner and taxpayer?
And I'm sorry if you took offense but I'm offended by your exaggerations and denigrating my neighborhood as looking like a "Transfer Station". There are a number of us who have recently purchased homes in this neighborhood, who have taken pride and invested in improvements to make the properties and neighborhood look nicer. So I'm going to call you out for being ridiculous.
Bend over and pick up a piece of trash. Pitch in with the rest of us. Don't let your dog do it's business on property you don't own. Litter is all of our problem. Stop expecting my tax dollars to be spent to come to your street to do work that good neighbors should just do!

I just don't think my taxes should pay more city employees to clean up after lazy, whiny neighbors. Don't we already pay enough? Do I have to pay to have someone pick up litter in front of your house?

You throw a lot of accusations out there I've seen you comment negatively on almost every thread in regards to the person who is posting it. This is a forum where we are allowed to express our concerns as taxpayers. My concerns may not be your concerns and from what it sounds like I have lived and paid taxes in this town a lot longer than you seeing as I was born and raised here. You seem to have an opinion and what you think is a professional answer to every item that it posted. I would sure hope you don't work for the city and are speaking on their behalf to tax payers in the way that you do, which is a very condescending manner.
You have not one clue what you talking about. You seem to just start a name calling game such as lazy and whiny neighbors. You're great at throwing accusations out there about one of the facts I stated in the post. I didn't hear anything in response to the break ins and having a little more
Police patrol on the area. Why don't you FOIA some police reports of auto and home break ins in the neighborhood and then tell me if I'm wrong there also.
Let's leave the answers to citizens concerns up to the professionals within the city that are assigned with those tasks. I'm sure whoever responds on the city's behalf won't attempt to name call and take importance away from actual citizens/taxpayer concerns. You sir don't belong one bit posting on this forum.
