So where do you stand on a 30 day rental? That's what the law allows so that's what this homeowner will probably just end up opting for.
Airbnb has generated 31 billion for the state of Florida last year alone. It's only a matter of time before it gets passed.
At the end of the day, if the mortgage is paid and the taxes are current, why should the homeowner get harassed? Is the house in disrepair? Are they loud throughout the night?
People like the plaintiff belong in deed restricted communities. Roser Park is imperfect, that's its charm. How do six parked cars irk you exactly? Live a little and you'd be much happier and more productive if you channeled that anxiety and energy into a good cause that makes a positive difference in a life rather than counting cars in driveways.
Look up St. Pete on Airbnb; it's thriving. Leave this homeowner alone.

Please shut it down so that I can become a 30 day renter...or 6 month renter...or year long renter. The old antiquated code states clearly that those durations are allowed. I've mailed the owner requesting to rent the place if she gets shut down and I'm going to go down to the Codes office...and study the codes and do two things. 1...I'm going pick apart all of the violations that everyone in Roser Park is committing and force Code Cases to be open and there are tons on issue in that neighborhood....Tons. I can't wait to get started. 2...I'm going to push the limit...not actually cross the line...of every noise, littering, loitering, partying, ordinance I can and guess what...I will be legally staying there for A LONG TIME. I am a young progressive and Airbnb is that. Get your country club in a non-deed restricted neighborhood out of The City of St. Pete. This City is more happening than Tampa or Sarasota and I want my friends to visit here and stay in Airbnb's if they want to...EVEN IN ROSER PARK.

Like I said on a previous post about this house...this neighborhood...and this issue. It is time for me to make a deliberate visit to Roser Park with my camera, pen, and pad and document all of the Code Violations...and there are a lot. Airbnb is the least of your problems in this gumbo of wood frame shacks. A few Roser Park tight wads and The City is bullying a few folks that pay their taxes and purchased a home in that neighborhood just like everyone else. Mind your own business and if you want to mind other people's business then move to a deed restricted neighborhood or a country club.

Maybe your view of this community is because of the lack of respect from non-owners and slum lords in this community? I'm really not sure...just taking a stab. There are many homeowners who are trying to revive this community and are investing in their homes and are helping to clean it up. They would like it to stay that way. If you are a home owner and have any respect for your community and how it is maintained and appreciate some safety...you would understand this person's concern with a revolving door of people who could care less of how they treat the property or the neighborhood since they are only passing through. Beth and Tim...I've taken the time to research that house. The attorney that owned it for many years before this current owner maybe didn't value his investment. I will agree with you that Roser is charming...and the fact that it is a DIVERSE collection of shacks is what makes it cool. Stop trying to uniform everything. Tell you what...drive down every Alley in Roser and the fences and carriage house and limbs....and weeds are a mess. At least agree with that because you know its true. A few home owners keep their one area tidy, but for the most part....its just the truth. You and the other complainers are bullying this home owner. Have you left her a note and offered a chat? Have you licked a stamp and put a letter in the mail? You people just run to Code Officers now because you are just policing the neighborhood. Our states economy is driven by international and national dollars coming in here in a constant flux. Its call tourism and if you don't want that flux....get out of 20-50 miles away from the heart of a city as eclectic, progressive, diverse, tattooed, and transient as St. Pete. THAT IS THE ELEPHANT in the room. If you want what you are portraying then you chose the wrong neighborhood and area and city. So don't...now that you are here try to make it something it never was and never was intended to be. Airbnb, Netflix, VRBO, Uber, and Amazon are progressive innovative business models...so catch the wave. How about ask The City why they wontshut all of the Airbnb's down? You don't have to...I know why. Its not because they don't know which homes are on Airbnb...its because the revenue stream that landed in their lap without doing any work might give them the resources to fix those bad roads in Roser, get those tree limbs off the power lines in the Alley's, get the weeds from growing through the side walks, or how about in Roser all of those stem walls that line some of the homes that the roots have pushed over. How about REVIVE THAT MESS. Beth and Tim....how about leave Elvira a note. I looked her name up and sent her a letter. How about invite her over for coffee...and encourage your other bully neighbors to stop running to Code Enforcement.

Oh...let me add Beth and Harris. I'm a contractor and I have a few Airbnb's running in a different City and got the same kind of heat from neighbor's like you and the City. It was a FIGHT to get neighbors and Code Enforcement off our back in that City but we WON and I will assist host in The City of St. Pete now to win this fight because you don't see if makes sense yet, but it does. Don't know how old you are, but in the 60's when they finally started desegregating schools...that made sense to me and didn't to OTHERS...BUT IT MADE SENSE. When Pinellas County struck the deal with Airbnb...that was the key. You live in Roser so that would be the City....but I live in the county of Pinellas...but guess what...when we pay our taxes it all goes to The County Tax Collector. That is why the deal was between Pinellas County and Airbnb. Airbnb didn't need to make a deal with the City of St. Pete. There is a term called Revenue Sharing and this is how it works. Airbnb is sending $75,000 to $125,000 to Pinellas County PER MONTH...again..PER MONTH...and the county then Revenue Shares to the various cities based off of a formula pending the size of the city and just so happens...THE CITY OF ST. PETE is the biggest city in Pinellas County. My attorney is going to eat this alive. I'm sure other attorney's have barked a little at this fraud being committed, but mine will force The City of St. Pete into an audit of its funds and it will be a chicken's coming home to roost party. The City of St. Pete can't benefit from the Airbnb revenue stream and at the same time allow neighbor's to complain about the entity providing that stream when the county signed on the dotted line on their behalf. Got it?

And...what about Elvira's property rights? She purchased a home. She fixed it up. She contributed to the upkeep of the neighborhood and if it's renting, she must be keeping it in good condition or it wouldn't continue to rent. She pays property taxes and tourism taxes! What's the problem? Doesn't she have rights to do with her investment what she chooses?

Short term rentals maintained far better than annual rentals BECAUSE of the transient nature of the guests. Annual renters have no pride of ownership. Most short term guests own properties themselves. They come to spend their dollars and boost our economy. They are looking for a clean, well kept home to lay their head. Owners of short term rentals maintain their properties to far higher standards than owners of annual rentals!!!

Not Nosy is quite correct about the revenue stream generated by short term rentals and the City's interest in keeping them running. Why do you think the City only acts on complaints? Because they don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. The City of St Pete is making a boat load of money off the backs of short term rentals and they know it.

And Beth, have you reached out to your neighbor directly without hiding behind an anonymous complaint system? Have you ASKED the owner to work with you on your parking concerns? This anonymous nonsense is a cowards way of pitting neighbor against neighbor. I've never seen anything like it where I'm from. Everyone in everyone else's business. It's an epidemic in St Pete. People who do this kind of thing have obviously never suffered any real tragedy in their lives. Lost a child, suffered illness, experienced a tragic loss. If they knew what true heart ache is, they wouldn't waste their time with these petty complaints. There would be more compassion and understanding for their fellow man.

I'm glad I don't live near there because I would be annoyed as well. I pay my bills, taxes, insurance on time, keep my yard neat and clean and don't expect a 'motel' on my block.

Jeff and Fix it. Pinellas County already signed the deal. They are not gonna turn that money away. They have already been cashing the checks and using that $75,000-$100,000 per month for pay fire fighters, cops, teachers, county, and city workers, fix roads etc. As as more houses come of the Airbnb market...which they will...that pie is going to get even sweeter. Rick Scott loves Airbnb and once this hits the fan for the whole state...it will be legal everywhere. You guys are in the same boat as folks trying to shut down Uber and Lyft. It won't happen. You are like Blockbuster saying Netflix wouldn't work....where is Blockbuster now?

You are wrong not nosy. The deal applies to collection of taxes, it does not give permission to break the zoning laws. There are areas in Pinellas County where this activity is allowed, but not in the City of St. Petersburg because it was grandfathered in. One of the best things that could have happened. So go buy your illegal property somewhere else and you will be just fine.

What is currently "legal" is a 30 day rental minimum. If she has a problem I will be renting the house and the neighbors are gonna wish Airbnb back...TRUST ME! They would rather me there 1 month, 3 months, 6months or a year? They just might get what they ask for. The City of St. Pete can not allow it as long as this audit I'm going to demand shows they don't benefit from the revenue generated by rentals less than 30 days.

You want to run a hotel. Buy one. Buying a house to use as a hotel in a residential zone is just utterly outrageous on so many levels.

Mr/Ms Fix It!... I bought a home in 1999 here in Saint Pete. In 2007 the City, without any notice, without any public hearing changed my residential property into Commercial. YOUR Comment; "If I wanted to live in a commercial zone". Brings back that memory. If I sell my place will the new owners be allowed to 'live' there? Maybe, Just Maybe, anyone living next to a BnB would "Nicely" get in touch with the owners of said BnB and bring concerns directly to them, a solution would appear. Calling the authorities to intervene for you... Well, that just lacks a certain American Spirit. But if you need a place to park Trucks, Trailers, Boats, Cars, etc, my yard is zoned for it.

The City of St. Pete won't turn that $75,000-$125,000 down per month Jeff and Fix It. That revenue is coming from an innovative idea that even Rick Scott loves and I'm not a Rick Scott fan, but we sure as hell agree on this. Too much happening in the city and needs to happen to the city to not accept the revenue they don't have to lift a finger to generate.
