Elizabeth--When you assert that "this doesn't affect anyone", what I'm hearing is that you think it doesn't affect YOU. But it took me a while to realize why the lake that I used to swim in is now a slimy mess a good part of the summer relates to the nutrients in the soil that get washed from car tires directly into Burlington Bay from our storm sewer outlets. Even when the stormwater gets pushed through the treatment plant, not all the nutrients are removed and go on to feed the algae. Also, DPW has spent millions of our tax dollars to clean soil from our catch basins and sewer lines on an ongoing basis--hence, the city ordinance outlawing parking on lawns. So, if you enjoy clean water and want to save city resources, please join us in helping to keep soil under the grass and out of the stormwater.
