Description

Very bad pedestrian accommodation at a sidewalk repair. I spoke to the engineer in charge. He told me he was required by city engineer Deepak Shaw to create a detour in such a way that would force pedestrians to walk a good 10 minutes around a very short section of sidewalk. That walk would also include crossing a busy street at an uncontrolled intersection and then crossing back through two very long waits for a pedestrian signal. I believe the city of Berkeley has a policy that pedestrians need to be accommodated a lot better than this (and if not, why not?) Naturally pedestrians are not doing that long walk and they are in the street, confused and in danger from fast moving traffic
