The park in front of 220 Broadway is a mess. The trash, liquor bottles and scratch cards are awful in the park. Is there a way to clean it and get a trash barrel in that area?

There is a small trash barrel at the corner of Broadway and Second. I've been trying to get the city to install trash compactors on the Chelsea Square Area but it gets rejected all the time.
Having said that, most of the trash is left behind overnight from the homeless drunks. You should see this area on sunday mornings, trash EVERYWHERE. I use to clean up after them, bringing in my broom and trash bags or boxes and placing them neatly next to the barrels but i simply have no time now. I hope the city adds some of the newer trash receptacles soon.

Yes there is a trash barrel across the street from us. But that does little good on our corner. How many busy people will cross a street where only 10% of the drivers stop for the blinking red light, just to toss away their trash and then try to head back across?
Again, cross street to Everett ave is a highly traveled route in the morning and afternoon. So why not put a barrel there?

Anonshark: No one is being rude.
This issue goes back many years and the city said it would install one in this area but it did not. Everett Ave does not count either.

Please dont take it as arguing. Im just requesting barrels.
Last year the city cut down the tree in front of the store. We cleaned up the area and put mulch down, it became a place to toss trash. Several years ago a youth city group asked the broadway businesses to sponsor a wine barrel with flowers out front. We did and guess what, it became a trash barrel.
We pay quite a bit in real-estate taxes, I dont think asking for a trash barrel is being greedy.

I see barrels in the city that are full, does that mean if those barrels were not there, the pedestrians would hang on to their trash until they got home? I think not. You proved my point a few posts ago. There is a reason the city has 200 barrels and needs to empty them often, people are using them. The majority of people will put trash in a barrel if one is available. So until a barrel is put there and tried, its not possible to say whether or not it will fix our blocks problem.
Anonshark, as to people using their real names, I find it interesting that people feel the need to complain, but also the need to hide from their complaints.
Oh well, have a nice day.
