Description
The signal lights on the southbound side of Williston Rd. just prior to the Dorset St. intersection are not visible. Most people assume it's always green and just go which has led to many near misses. They need to be bright and actually work.

This defect has been noted numerous times with no improvement in the problem. Amazingly, the right lane light eastbound at the I89 exit onto Williston Road can be seen from the top of the interstate overpass all the way to the light itself, no matter how close to the light you are. The lights in the middle and left lanes, however, are visible only in a very narrow range as the driver approaches those lights. Why can't the middle and left lane lights work just like the right lane light? Clearly the problem is with the lights themselves, not the timing. Put lights like in the right lane in the middle and left lanes. Pretty simple! South Burlington traffic control just ignores this dangerous situation, marking it as "acknowledged." Well, la-dee-da for them.
Complaints about this issue have been registered for months. Do the city street department officials not care? Are they incompetent? Are they waiting for a terrible accident? Fix the problem NOW!!! Continuing to ignore it is irresponsible and life-threatening. I expect more from my city officials. Move this issue to top priority and fix it by the end of January, 2018.

Actually, RyDro's suggestion to just run these lights is not that crazy! The lights for the middle and left lanes eastbound on Williston Road at the I89 exit serve very little purpose. If the right lane has a green light, then traffic from I89 trying to enter Williston Road has a red light. So there is no traffic that can enter the "100-foot" zone except right-turn-on-red cars from I89 or right lane Williston Road drivers swerving into the middle lane from the green light they have. Both of these are rare. So virtually no traffic can enter the 100-foot zone while right lane eastbound Williston Road has a green light.
Why are the middle and left lane lights red then? The only effect is to hinder traffic. It's one of the many mysteries of the settings of these signals, a problem that has plagued drivers for over 20 years.
So the risk in running the two red lights at the I89 exit while the right lane has a green light is slim. Just be careful! Whenever I approach these lights with no one in front of me, I check the light in the right lane. If it's green I go and don't even try to decide if the light in my lane is green or red. Can't see it anyway!
