Jon, you beat me to it! This kid is a MENACE! I agree, he's been at it every day, same time. I called the police twice yesterday, and don't think they ever followed up. I never saw them drive by. He almost hit my car after a wheelie on Clifton St., and I am really fed up. (That was 1 day after there was an accident in Fair Haven involving a car and a bike doing wheelies.) He also frequents 1st Avenue and 83 Clifton next to the park entrance. I didn't confront him, because of his 3 buddies sitting at the gate. He is about 25, thin, Latino. See photo. He was joined on Tuesday by a big, stocky, bit older guy on a blue atv. That guy is probably in his late 30's, also Latino, fair-skinned, shaved bald head. These guys are going to hurt someone besides themselves. Can the NHPD please do something? Confiscate their "vehicles," maybe?

Definitely! NHPD, as you can see from the eyewitness accounts, these aren't children pulling this crap.
The Quad Squad worked amazingly last summer, but these guys obviously have short memories. Please don't let this get out of hand again!

The not so comical part of this is New Haven has had two beatings now in 2 years over these illegal vehicles getting hit by cars. Talk about crazy backwards @#$% street justice.

Are the cops waiting for more beatings before acting?

Maybe they are hoping the citizens go out into the street and experiment with vigilante street justice.

I wonder how many dirtbikes DeStefano and Limon have doing wheelies at full throttle in front of their houses...

9:30 pm last night, same thing

I have been calling the south shore dispatch at least 3 times a week for illegal dirt bikes and 4 wheelers racing around the Quinnipiac area all spring. I have never seen an officer show up. I even gave the address of where some of them seem to live. Fun on motor bikes is great but they need to stay off the street and out of the public parks. It is dangerous and distructive. I'd say we try to follow them home and talk to the parents. Sadly they are not being supervised.

I just left the intersection of Warwick and Russell where NHPD, with Lt. Hoffman on-site, were wrapping up the arrest of a dirt-bike driver. He was part of a group that a neighbor reported and police were able to locate them quickly.

So far this week two drivers have been arrested and two dirt bikes confiscated. Obviously the problem is larger than these two arrests but I need to remind neighbors that the police are committed to enforcement of this issue and are working hard to arrest the drivers.

Many thanks to all the officers who made this arrest possible. Also, thanks to the neighbor who provided the tip that alerted police.

Almost everyday after school the dirt bikes are in fairmont park tearing it up. It looks like they might live in the house on the corner of the Entrance to the fields. They are there all the time. They ran me off a walking path once and almost ran over my feet another time as I was laying on th grass, they didn't see me there. I think a sign posted with fine info might help. But the police need to step up.

Yes, I've been calling the PD almost daily on the crew in the park. As have some neighbor friends. The guy on the yellow bike takes the cake though, on the streets until all hours. I called on him this week too. Saw him coming out of Front St. and heading up the hill on my way home from work Wed. A guy on a red bike was joining him yesterday. I hope it was one of these folks who got pinched. Alex, (or anyone else who might know)...Is 946-6316 the best method of PD contact in these cases? The folks answering there have seemed less than enthusiastic, and I have yet to see the response we got used to last year. Anyway, glad we got one, but there's a lot more work to do.

Yes, 203-946-6316 is the correct number to call. That's how the driver was caught today. I understand that the dispatchers may not handle your call with the sense of urgency you believe is appropriate and we are working on that as well.

For now, please keep calling because each call gets logged and helps build our case for the return of the 'Quad Squad.' CPT Bombaliecki, who oversaw the Quad Squad last summer, is supportive of its return and Chief Limon indicated that it's likely to come back as well.

I'm grateful for the beautiful spring but it has led to a variety of issues that are more common in the summer. As a result the NHPD is working to catch up but, as this week's results indicate, they are committed to stopping illegal dirt bikes.
