Description

Good morning,

I was hoping that someone could look into the following three issues with the Edwin Raynor/Magothy Bridge intersections:

(1) Placement of signals for drivers making a right turn from Edwin Raynor onto Magothy Bridge. There are trees and a small hill that restrict the sight line for drivers making this right turn, which requires pulling forward to see traffic coming down Magothy Bridge. Doing so means pulling so far forward that it is hard to see the dedicated light for right turns. Adding a supplemental light on the opposite side of the road or adjusting the existing light placement would help, as would addressing the trees and/or hill.

(2) The turning lane for drivers turning left from Magothy Bridge onto Edwin Raynor is very short and accommodates only 3-4 cars. During evening rush hour, this can result in drivers making the left turn to interfere with drivers going through the intersection. Lengthening this lane and expanding this part of the intersection would be helpful.

(3) Drivers making the right turn from Magothy Bridge onto Edwin Raynor could use a dedicated turning lane. Right now, drivers who make the turn are interfering with drivers who would pass through the intersection, causing some delays. It also exacerbates the first issue, as when drivers do not use their turn signal when turning right, drivers turning right from Edwin Raynor onto Magothy Bridge can't properly gauge whether it is safe to enter the intersection. A dedicated right turning lane for Magothy Bridge traffic would cut interference for drivers on that road and provide better information for other drivers entering the intersection.

I realize that there is not a lot of room around that intersection, but any effort to address this would be helpful. The intersection can be a bit of a bottleneck in the mornings and evening, and sometimes cause drivers to be a bit more aggressive than necessary. Especially after sitting in heavy traffic and just wanting to get home.
