I've seen a mother running across Rt. 209 pushing baby carriage. We've had a teenage boy hit by a car while walking to the town park. People who live on Lundy Road drive across the street to the Post Office because they don't feel safe walking. Then they have to make a left hand turn to get home, statistically the most dangerous thing you can do. People DO use the sidewalk on the P.O. side. Why wouldn't they use a continuation of the sidewalk on the other side of the street?How do children get to the park without sidewalks? How do children get exercise if you can't even send them to the Post Office, or let them walk to the town park? Or to the State Forest? As long as you're willing to lose a few of your children now and then, there's no need for safer pedestrian crossings.

On Saturday June 2, 2012, the Long Path hiking trail will be officially re-routed so that it crosses Route 209 at the Wawarsing Post Office. Signs warning traffic of pedestrians crossing the road are needed. The Long Path goes from the George Washington Bridge to the Albany area.

I should add that NYS DOT recommends the continuation of the sidewalk and a crossing.

John, The crosswalk is not needed at this time. When someone pays for sidewalks maybe we will need it.

The Long Path crossing isn't where the DOT officials recommended. They picked out the safest place to cross.They suggested that the sidewalk is wide enough to be considered a multiuse path. Continuing the sidewalk on the other side of the street to Lundy Road was their suggestion. I say continue it to Lippman Park.

Spend money on road repair not a useless sidewalk. And while your at it SELL the old Colony farm.
