Description

I called you back in early January to request speed limit signs for the service road I live on between Libby and Caze rds. The issue is the children are not able to play or ride bikes. I was contacted by someone at the city and was told it could take up to a month to have them installed. Well this is 8 months later and still no signs. To make matters worse a model home will soon be opening and traffic will heavier and more dangerous. PLEASE DO NOT SAY IT WILL BE ASSIGNED TO SOMEONE BECAUSE IT ALREADY HAS BEEN. JUST TAKE CARE OF THIS. Our children are our future

I do not understand why you closed this. No speed limit signs have been erected as of today 08/22/2017. It may not seem to be important to those at city hall, but the children living in this area are not yours. Top speed for this service road should not be more than 20 mph. I was told tha city did not have speed limit signs at that speed, but you have had plenty of time to have them made.

Hi John, we understand your concern. Children in our City are important to us too. However, there is already a 20mph speed limit sign at the other end of the block. Most residential areas in the City are 35mph. We would recommend calling the Police Department for this speeding issue. They may be able to send some extra patrols in the area.

There are NO speed limit signs between Cazes and Libby, and as I stated before a model home will soon be opening two doors down from us, which will generate more traffic on this service road. I have tried to be nice about this issue, but if needed other residents and I will sit in the mayors office until this is taken care of. North Port has no problem raising our taxes. Spend a few hundred dollars to fix this. Thank You Again

Thank you so very much. As you see I am not going to let this matter get lost in the shuffle again. My grandchildren and the other children on this service road have not been able to ride their bikes or skateboards all summer long, even with adult supervision.

Dear Steward for tax payers, The road we are talking about is a service road that runs parallel with Sumter Blvd. It was intended for residents to safely access Sumter without having to back out of our driveways onto the road. Although everyone living along this road rarely go over 15 to 20 mph, it is the hot rodders not living on this road going 40 plus mph that are of concern.

Update: Public Works staff will be installing 30mph speed limit signs at the location next week. The 20mph signs will be removed. Also, we have spoken to the Police Department and they will be setting up extra patrols in the area.
