Description
ALL SUMMER - homeless encampment and coordinated drug dealing on southwest corner of the green across from shakeshack. A gang has taken up under umbrellas that remain for months and use walkie talkies and bikes to run drugs through the green. I have alerted the NHPD and alderwoman to no avail. The are is a see of literal litter, trash and derelicts who have been harassing passers by and taunting them. They are vagrants who are eroding the quality of life of our city.

TO EVERYONE READING THESE POSTS ABOUT THE GREEN:
The New Haven Police have taken action. They have been on the Green most of the day yesterday, Friday, August 18th and today, Saturday, August 19th. One arrest appears to have been made yesterday morning. There is no online police log. I'll check the police log at the front desk of the police station today or tomorrow.
I've been homeless in New Haven for 4 months and it has been an eye opening learning experience. The homeless people in New haven are victims of horrible childhood upbringings. Many of them were raised by a single parent who spent a lot of time in prison. They don't understand contemporary American social etiquette. They have no idea their behavior is considered unacceptable to most others.
Some of the previous posts on this issue don't make sense. Why would we want a curfew on the Green? Let's enjoy our freedoms. What's wrong with my friends being shirtless? How are they harassing women and young men? Walkie talkies and bikes? I'm not aware of anyone on the Green using walkie talkies for illegal activity and nobody is using bikes to traffic drugs. Please don't refer to my friends as a gang. They are people who need to be educated on how to integrate more peacefully with the local community and it's not impossible. I'm only one person, but one person can do a lot. What are you doing to help?

We are almost through January and the homeless shelters and warming centers have been treating us very well. Let's see what happens over the next several months until the weather gets warmer.
