It's NOT a pre-red light. When it's red it IS a RED light.
That means STOP. It is meant to stop traffic before the train tracks while the second light remains GREEN to clear traffic from the tracks in case of a train.

And although the tracks are marked "Inactive" there still could be a train through there. Once the line is "Abandon" the tracks can be removed and the lights returned to some sort of normalcy. (removal of the first light).

I live nearby to this intersection and have had family in the same area for over 20 years. So trust me when I say that the tracks are indeed inactive. The only chance of them becoming active again is if they were to use the lines to extend 1 of the Septa regional rail lines out to reading like they proposed. Which of course given our current economic situation I don't anticipate that very soon.

Turning onto Pothouse going east is dangerous. The lights need changed to accommodate all the traffic. I suggest turning arrows and turning lane. Also, the 2 lights for the tracks is no longer needed. Another area is 29 and Pothouse Rd. That's another bad accident waiting to happen. That intersection is a nightmare at rush hour. I've come close a few times from getting slammed. I hope the township sees what a serious problem this is.

Remove the "No Turn on Red" sign when traveling on West Bridge towards Charlestown Rd. We are adults. There is a clear line of sight to see traffic coming on Pothouse. There is no reason someone could not make a right on red onto Pothouse from West Bridge, or from Pothouse onto West Bridge.

Some planning should have been done when the Whitehorse bridge was closed.

At rush hour, traffic backs up past the Tech School. One day it was backed up all the way to Charlestown Playhouse!

Adjust the timing of the lights until the bridge is finished - there is now LESS traffic on Pothouse and MORE traffice on Charlestown to get around the closed bridge.

You would have thought someone would have THOUGHT AHEAD. But I guess this is government - no one is paid to do that...

I agree, this is one of the worst stretch of roads - poorly timed lights, 2 lights in 30 foot stretch for an inactive train - they can turn the light off until a train becomes active, one lane traffic both ways, etc. If anyone is truly looking at these comments, this has to be the first one they investigate, there are so many comments here. At least someone from the govt come on here to say that they are reading these comments. I wish I knew about this area before I moved here.

They need turning lanes and the lights need to be timed different. This is a really bad intersection and causes a lot of delays for no reason.

3+ months and this issue is still open! Not one comment from the departments that can fix this. I really doubt the usefullness of this site other then a glorified comlaint board! It has so much potential. Our leaders ask us to get more involved, will here we are! Where r our leaders?
