Wait a second. I agree that running of red lights is a problem in New Haven and I wish there was more enforcement by NYPD (and very publicly so as to actually discourage it) but if the cop was already occupied, is this really the best example?

I take it more as an example of how little drivers fear getting in trouble for running a red that they'll do it right in front of a cop.

I have also witnessed cops ignoring traffic violations, such as one day a cop was at a red light at the intersection of Chapel and Sherman and a car came up Chapel in the wrong direction and the cop didn't do anything. Minor traffic stops can lead to bigger arrests such as discovery of warrants, drugs, guns and also unregistered and uninsured motorists which is a big problem in New Haven.

Concerned Mom you have a good point about the minor traffic stops leading to bigger things. I really do think that the police need to start pulling people over for these minor traffic violations.

It's funny you got a picture of this. In New Haven, though, it's not like getting a snapshot of Bigfoot since this occurs so frequently. But multiple infractions? And a cop? Awesome.
(I do understand, as said before, our police are usually preoccupied with more pressing matters.)

I plan on videotaping my intersection for an hour and sending Channel 8 the footage of the multiple people running the red light. (And yes, it still counts as running the red light even when you take your foot off the brake and inch through the intersection at 5mph...) Enough is enough.

The cop will probably be on the lookout for the Fed-Ex guy. Keep an eye on the guy. Perhaps the Fed-Ex realises he erred and won't sin again. Unless it's the same Fed -Ex guy who was reported on here a time or two before

Several people posted about cops watching red light runners while not writing tix. They were on secret assignment.

Not sure if anyone noticed, but the red light is facing the biker, making the light green for the FedEx driver. Just wanted to point this out, though I have little doubt he runs his fair share of red lights. :)

fyi - the green light of the traffic light that is just visible over the truck is lit. I actually have video (this is just a still) I record my commute as insurance for when a wild auto driver does me in at least my surviving heirs can know what happened. This driver didn't just "squeeze the lemon" - that was the three or four cars in front of him. He actually entered the intersection AFTER the light changed.
Of course, there are those studies that show how a complete lack of traffic signals of any sort like in many Indian cities force drivers and pedestrians alike to be more cautious. Perhaps the New Haven driving style is just evidence of a progressive streak?

No one in any official capacity, be it FedEx or the City of New Haven seems to find this issue worthy of comment. It was worth a try.
