A FEMA rep came by a few weeks after the flood and said they were going to require METRO to repair it as part of a storm water issue.

NO IT HAS NOT. NOW WITH THE BRANCH OVERFLOWING IT'S BANKS WITH EVERY RAIN THE MOSQUITOES ARE TERRIBLE. THE GUY FROM FEMA SAID THEY WOULD REQUIRE METRO TO REPAIR IT. THE GUY FROM METRO BASICALLY SAID NOT IN YOUR LIFETIME. WHEN STORMWATER ADDED THE DRAIN TO RELIEVE FLOODING OM PERCY WARNER BLVD IT ONLY MADE THINGS WORSE, THEN THE FLOOD CAME AND IT IS A REAL PROBLEM. I GUESS WE DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT ADDRESS TO GET SERVICE!!!

I have decided the only thing we can do is to work to get Dean defeated. He is not interested in the everyday citizen of this county. Maybe a new Mayor will listen and help.

No. It has not been repaired. What you don't seem to get is the branch tapers from 5 feet across and three feet deep to 1 foot across and three inches deep as a result of storm debris (rocks) a lot of which probably washed from the railroad bed. Every time it rains it over flows banks on both sides and creates swampy areas. Let me know who I need to get a permit from and I will be happy to rent a backhoe and do it myself. God knows Metro stormwater will be of no help.

No it has not. I am doing my best with a shovel. Do not worry. I will not bill stormwater for my efforts.

Metro Water Services (MWS) has investigated a few times over the years and is aware of this specific concern by neighbors. Streams are not dredged and rocks are not removed by MWS since flooding is not necessarily averted through this process. Streams are regulated by the State. Metro made the drainage problem worse before the flood by putting several drains from Percy Warner Blvd and diverting storm water directly into Vaughhn's Branch. Then with the flood came and many rocks and debris washed into the branch, a lot of which originated in the railroad bed. When a representative from FEMA saw the mess, he said Metro Stormwater would be required to rectify the situation. We also have a drainage probelm because of inadequate storm drains on our end of the street. We have only one on our block and the other end of the street has five in one block. I guess we just do not have the right connections. I thought that an example of what my storm water tax added to each month's bill was to be used for. Most of our issues are far from natural. If you have time, come by and I'll let you see first hand how unnaturel our problems are.
