Description
The traffic signal to cross Broadway takes several minutes to change. It takes so long, that people do not know if works/will change. I have seen cars back up into traffic to turn around and go another direction, or illegally run the red light. I have seen cyclists run the red light after minutes of the light not changing. I have seen pedestrians jaywalk in frustration. This is DANGEROUS! If the light really requires several minutes to change when cars/cyclists/pedestrians are waiting to cross Broadway, then perhaps a timer could be installed to indicate that at least the signal has recognized that somebody is waiting. Thank you. I have also reported this to the call center (510-615-5566).

Cyclists run EVERY red light in Oakland, I rarely see them wait with the rest of traffic for the green light.....so IMO Darwin can deal with them....same goes for the pedestrians (mostly nearby high school kids) who learned from their parents that red/green lights don't mean anything, they can walk wherever they want since they are the 'new generation' of "ME FIRST".
I assume the light takes very long because traffic on Broadway needs to move and keep moving, vs the side streets, but I'm not a traffic engineer anymore.

As it stands, this intersection is hazardous. People do not believe that the traffic light has detected their presence, whether car or cyclist or pedestrian. They act on the assumption that the light will not change, because it takes so long. As mentioned, motor vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians all run the light or back up into traffic because they do not think the light will change. Your comment is prejudiced and dismissive to what I and others experience as a true hazard (for anyone, including the traffic on Broadway).
