Description

Since the city of Albany decided to make the first half of Notre Dame drive a one-way street by Albany Law, traffic leaving the university heights area has been a living nightmare ESPECIALLY in inclement weather (which includes snow AND rain). Several times in the last year alone it has taken me more than one hour to go from outside the Law school to Clara Barton Drive (which should also have a light at its exit onto Hackett). This issue has only gotten worse as the pharmacy school has taken over the old transportation building and increased traffic. Why was the change made, and couldn't the city do a traffic study on this area to alleviate the congestion? In gridlocked conditions, people make Notre Dame a two-way street anyway - just to make it out onto Holland without running out of gas waiting in your car for SOMEONE to move. There should also be a left-turning signal and separate lane on Princeton Drive's exit onto Holland Ave, as it is nearly impossible to make a left-hand turn at rush hour especially with the VA traffic.

I agree fully! There is no reason that Notre Dame cannot be a 2-way again. They put in the traffic light and I thought for sure the city would change it back to 2-way. I am VERY disappointed. This is Albany. Not NYC or LA.

I completely agree! There is no reason for this street to be one way - especially with the addition of the traffic lights on Holland.

In a time where we are all trying to be environmentally conscious, making ALS entrance 1 way in and forcing them to go all the way around to the light in order to get back out on Holland Ave, is a terrible waste of resources in that several hundred people are adding over 1/2 mile to their trip which adds up to many gallons of gas wasted for no reason. With the new lights on Holland, there is no excuse for keeping Notre Dame Dr one way!!

I work in the area and have a horrible experience leaving every night. The traffic is absolutely horrendous, and there is no reason why it should be taking me over an hour to get home - 6 miles away. I strongly agree that Notre Dame should be turned into a 2 way or there should be a left only lane onto Holland somewhere. While you're at it Albany...

Please re-pave New Scotland. It has thrown my car out of alignment on more than one occassion and you expect ambulances, with injured people in them, to drive up and down these pot hole filled roads. I know they jerk my car to the point hurts to go over them sometimes, I can't imagine having to go over them under life threatening circumstances.

I understand that it is winter time, and things like this should be expected, and they are... but the road problems in the area have gotten out of control. Does anyone know if there is someone in particular that can be contacted regarding this problem?
