There is already a light by the School that could be timed to have the same effect and you then wouldn't have two lights so close to each other.

Also if you are adding a light why not at State road and 896? That is a more Major intersection.

Now that makes sense. Changing the timing on the other light by the school would take some heat of of people turning from Oxford road onto 896.

I am sorry but I disagree. By widening the roadway and adding the turn lanes, it made exiting onto Rte 896 from either Oxford Road or Alpine Estates more difficult. Prior to the turn lanes, traffic on both 896 south and north were required to wait until cars in front of them turned - now they don't. This also allows cars going north bound on 896 to continue to accelerate, which they do. Although the stop sign at State Road and 896 do help a little with the traffic flow, the additional cars that enter onto 896 from Seneca and West Avondale Road negate that benefit, especially during rush hour in the am and pm.

This intersection is terrible and very dangerous. The new turn lanes only made it worse. When you are trying to turn left from oxford road onto 896 the cars turning right ALWAYS block my view. I think a traffic light would help. During rush hour it is almost impossible to get out. I have been going other ways to avoid it!

It would save a lot of time to have a light at Rt 896 and Oxford road both for those leaving Oxford road and those turning onto Oxford road as far as the lights they can be controled so that they work together so that the light at the school is red when the light at Oxford road is green etc.

I agree with the above comment about rush hour being tedious and dangerous. Additionally the new turn lanes make oncoming traffic veer over when someone is turning onto Oxford Road in either direction.

I think that we definitely need a fix to this intersection. It has
become a real stress to make a left in the morning and at rush hour. I will go different ways to avoid it. It is very dangerous and I would expect more accidents there in the future if something is not done.

I think the intersection is fine - I'm not aware of any accidents since the improvements to the intersection. If cars are going 50 MPH at Oxford Rd than speed limit enforcement is required since the posted limit is 35 MPH, not a traffic light creating congestion with the attendant noise and air pollution.

For all you people who want another traffic light move back to Delaware County. There are plenty there that miss you.

I total agree with the post above mine.

Since no one enforces the speed limit on 896 and the addition of a turning lane was added, this can be a tricky intersection. I would rather see drivers obey the law and watch their speed rather than add a light. Return the roadway back to the way it was an eliminate the turning lanes. Do what DE does, add a few speed tables on the road, keep truck traffic down and enforce the damn speed limit.

Sadly, crime has increased and traffic enforcement is a lower priority. There simply is not the man power to monitor traffic. Many buses must cross this intersection. Do we want to risk the worst case scenario that would involve children? Lights can be activated for rush hour.Kemblesville has 15 mi/hr during school.

There's really no need for a light here. We don't need, nor do we want the congestion that can bring. It's not even a cross street, it's one road dumping onto 896, the cross street is a development. The trouble is that the braintrusts at DOT added a turning lane allowing thru traffic to accelerate even more on 896 where the speed limit is 35. Enforce the current speed limit and this is no longer an issue. Be patient, remember it's a rural area and stop speeding both on Oxford road and on 896.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking! The plea to "think of the children" is just not appropriate. This is not a heavy foot traffic area, nor are there more school bus crossings here than any other intersection in the area.

I was simply referring to the school buses that must either turn onto Newark Road or onto Oxford Road. My concern is founded on the fact that this is a difficult intersection due to the traffic during certain hours, its' expansion and the lack of patrolling the speed limit in that stretch of roadway. [When I see a trooper monitoring any part of 898, they are usually stationed up near the schools in the median strip. Although they may "catch" speeders going north on 896, I have never seen them stop anyone. Additionally, the stops signs, traffic light at Violet Lane and volume of traffic going to the schools tend to slow up things up there.] Of course, the buses do exit/enter Newark Rd at other intersections. Road usage isn't going to magically decrease. It is a privilege to live here. I would rather be proactive about fixing a bad situation than live with the consequences of seeing people hurt in a vehicle accident. And thinking about the safety of children is very appropriate. Finally, no, there is little foot traffic in this area because there is no where to safely walk. These comments are focused solely on the road traffic.
