My roommate received a ticket for passing stopped traffic to turn left at a light. The officer's reason was that he passed a driveway and didn't turn left at that driveway. It is also very dangerous because cars that are turning left out of a driveway from the other side of the road pull out when stopped traffic give them a clearing and don't see the person riding down the left lane coming.

I know that's not as a dangerous situation for a right turn lane, but to ride the whole 600 foot lane when there is no traffic que at the light makes no sense. This lane is ridiculously long, the reason is because it is obviously meant for turning into those driveways also, not all for Allen road traffic. Many people turn into the very first driveway to go to walmart/home depot and every day I see people slamming on there brakes for someone turning when they shouldn't have been in the turn lane yet to begin with. The one time I tried doing it, I got the finger from some guy trying to pull out of a driveway. Nowhere in this state have I seen a right turn lane like this. The ones that are long, have dividers or painted lines so you don't ride the whole thing and rear end someone trying to turn right into a different driveway.

I guess if your riding in your cozy little car commuting home to grosse ile, it's not a big deal for you. Try being on a motorcycle and dealing with these people that think they know how to drive, including you.

This would be a huge issue for bicyclists and pedestrians too. There is a sidewalk on this roadway, and trying to cross these driveways without knowing if the car is going to turn right into your path or not is deadly.

Been down this road many times. I feel that it is a non issue.

Now the problem is worse now that there is a traffic signal in front of Home Depot. Why would you ride the right turn lane and proceed straight through a traffic signal? Put a concrete island down the middle to force people to turn right at the light.
