If the Civil War Statues are being taken down, than he should be added to the list

Lets take down all Washington and Jefferson statues down and rename Yale too while we are it.

Waste of money??!! Lets make thr mayor drive herself afound and let the 2 cops who are on call, do police work. If the mayor doesn't want to drive get a bike............

I don't think the issue has been fixed, it would be best to reopen.

Suggest you call the NHPD front desk at 203-946-6255 and ask for the hourly rate to hire a police officer with a car. That will give you some idea of the approximate cost. It was likely done because the "anti" fascists had promised to damage the statutes and K of C property.

Columbus had nothing to do with American history. He brutally enslaved hundreds of thousands of indigenous people, resulting in 250,000 deaths. He didn't discover America, or prove the world is round. Can we be adults and do away with the mythology already? Bringing up Washington and Jefferson is a non-sequitur.

There is supposed to be a patrol in Wooster Square regardless, and they usually hang around the park. If this was in lieu of driving around Wooster Square (or sitting in front of St Michaels) then there was no additional cost. Except to Wooster Square residents who loose out on their roving neighborhood patrol which is sorely needed on Grand Ave.

Washington and Jefferson did some things that are considered by today's standards as morally wrong, so shouldn't their statues come down?

XYZ at least they were US presidents, not random foreigners who had nothing to do with the US or civil war traitors. But to engage the issue, maybe we should celebrate Italian Heritage Day instead deifying a very unworthy individual whose accomplishments have been vastly overstated and his misdeeds swept under the rug.

I am going to get into a debate on Columbus's accomplishments and misdeeds. Bottom line if you don't like Columbus it does not give you the right to put graffiti on his statue. Law enforcement has the right and duty to prevent it. Would you want people to this with any historical figure's statue who they did not like?

XYZ, that's rich. You asked the question, then say you aren't going to debate when you get an answer, classic. I agree, vandalism is wrong. However, NHPD seems perfectly fine with the ever escalating amount of graffiti around the square and having a young woman brutally assaulted in her bedroom over the summer, but gosh dang it, we can't let the statue to St. Columbus (aka Jesus 2.0) face the prospect of being vandalized. Up the security and lets pay those cops lots of overtime.

Sorry, this was originally in "other" a category that was not well monitored.

The statute was given "extra attention" in 2017 due to the non specific threats which means that normal patrol cars were circling more often. Unfortunately the statute was vandalized and cleanup required significant staff time. The pictured patrol was from after the cleanup to help to mitigate a second occurrence. If my recollection is correct the on duty officer was assigned to park there rather than the usual drive around.
