The PM traffic (4-6pm) is even worse.

I have to disagree with the person who said the average wait time is one minute. Please try turning left onto Newfield Street between 8 & 9 am, or 5 to 6:30pm (especially on a Friday night when route 9 backs up). There can be a 3 - 4 minute wait PER CAR to turn left, and if you are the third or fourth car back, that time adds up. That time was worsened when the state thought it was a good idea to allow people to pass on the right for northbound cars turning into Congdon Street. Now those cars can't allow us a way out because there are cars speeding past them. I agree that we may be too close to the light at Stoneycrest but a study should be done rather than just being dismissed.

When the State modified the roadway in this area a year or two ago, that request was made and denied. The State's reason: Insufficient number of accidents at this location!!!!!!!!!!!! So, when another dozen or two (or three) accidents at this intersection are documented, the State will consider a light. So, do you part, have an accident to speed the addition of a traffic light at the intersection of Congdon St. East and Newfield St.

Additionally, the State lied twice with respect to this intersection during a meeting at the Town Hall.

Lie Number 1: They stated the lite at the High School and the lite at Stoneycrest would be timed together to provide better opportunities for entrance onto Newfield St. from Congdon ST. East. There is no evidence that these lites are interlocked.

Lie Number Two - they stated they would provide a left-turn lane in the Northbound side of Newfield St at Congdon. What they provided is a widened area of the lane, but not a full turning lane. This accomodation will increase accidents at this location - so maybe they had a plan afterall.

Oh God, Please do not put another light on this street. It already takes me way to long to drive the length of this street. What we really need is another lane.

NO MORE LIGHTS ON NEWFIELD!

Its funny all of you who do not want a new light on Newfield. I bet you do not live off of Congdon St. Our access to a light was taken away because of the High School. You try sitting there for 10 minutes just to turn left out of our street.

I agree with Jamie..... we don't have a choice - we have to try to turn left onto an extremely busy road that will become absolutely impossible if there is another lane added. For those who just drive on Newfield and complain about the lights, there is always East ST or Rt 9 as an alternate.

I am not in favor of more lights, just safety as a small neighborhood has been forced into a very busy street. With the widening just prior to Congdon it has contributed to more chaos and inability for anyone to turn left many times during the day. Sit for 10 minutes or more every morning and afternoon and you will get it. Rush hour mostly, but even a traffic light with blinking during non-rush hour would make our residents safer!

No more lights!!!!! I live off of newfield and I think this would cause way more of a headache then it is worth. The light is only needed in what...a few hour time period each day? It is a waste of money, and it is to close to the other light.

A light is needed I waited 15 minutes to turn on newfield. who cares if it is going to ad more time they added a light to washington that is close to the other two i say ad one to Newfield it will also help with the speeding.

You can choose an alternate route if the new light would cause delays. I refuse to have to choose another home.
I struggle with this area on a daily basis. With my kids in tow, this turn is downright frightening. My five year old actually stops talking to allow me to devote my full attention to driving as we approach the intersection because he knows it's dangerous.
And a reality check about the ever helpful widening of the road: I've seen MORE close calls as people turning sometimes don't see the guy passing on the right in the Northbound lane while someone is waiting to make the left turn onto Congdon East.
I understand that a full-time light would be a bit of overkill with the light at Newfield being so close, but perhaps we can make a compromise, like a yellow that only functions as a complete light setup at rush hour. In the meantime, I still stick with my opinionion that a few minutes of waiting to drive the length of Newfield Street is a VERY small price to pay for the safety of my family

Even if they did install a light it would take quite a long time (The light at Ridge and Randolph took 10 years). I think If I were so worried about my family dying in a horrific, fiery crash if I were to turn left, I would just make a right turn.

I think that if a light is put in here that there also needs to be a cross walk because I have almost been hit by a lot of cars turning out of this road because they were not paying any attention.

A light is needed at this intersection..It is impossible to turn Left at rush hour in Am and again anytime after 4pm Monday-Friday..I am afraid it will take a child involved in an accident for this issue to be taken seriously. Anyone who lives off Congdon St. can remember when traffic was not so heavy, but with the High School relocating to this area, the city planners did not take into account how it would affect those of us who pay taxes and live in the neighborhoods. For safety -a light is needed.
