Description

This house was finally purchased this year and it seemed as if something were to be done with it. However, a dumpster was stationed in the driveway and people have come by in their dump trucks and filled the dumpster with their garbage while nothing else seems to have been done at this house. It is an eyesore and needs to be handled sooner rather than later. City of New Haven: please contact the new owner and get something going on the renovation of this house.

This house is detrimental to our neighborhood. The dumpster does not seem to be filled with trash from the actual property!!

The appropriate entity to contact is LCI, but it can be difficult or impossible to get a response from the designated neighborhood specialist.

We have spoken with the owner regarding progress on the inside of the property and renovations on the inside have already begun. There were a couple of electrical issues that hindered immediate progress just after purchase. He says it is to be finished by month's end. We will speak with him regarding the dumpster and his timeline.

LCI is following City code by giving a reasonable amount of time for major repairs to be done by the new owner. Once this time line has expired (which we are closing in on), blight and other applicable fines will be issued against the owner/property. This property has been an unnecessary eyesore for years. Hopefully, to avoid further potential action by the City, it will soon be restored putting this nightmare behind us.

Although this house is presently partially occupied, seemingly like a rooming house, the dumpster still remains in the backyard and there is garbage back there, as well. We have a long way to go with this disaster and the neighbors and our alder will not back down until this issue of zoning is taken care of.

Zoning--where are you with this issue? This is a residential neighborhood, not one zoned as a rooming house or dormitory for students. This is serious and we (neighborhood and alder) need a much more comprehensive answer about how this house is and CAN BE rented and occupied.

Plus, last I heard there weren't supposed to be tenants on the second floor, but that must have changed because I see lights and shadows in various rooms at night.

The units have valid leases (both floors). An inspection occurred, and based on the lease and number of occupants, the legal department sees violation.
