Goffball, I hope you're right. Something tells me they rushed the job and have no intention of coming back and doing it right.

I am a bit wary though because it's been in what I hope is a temporary state for so long...

I drove through there again last night, and it is a really rotten paving job. It's like one of those crappy utility patches -- only this is a numbered state highway with a 45 mile an hour speed limit. The truck in front of me did what a LOT of people do: drive all over the centerline rather than drive on the bumpy uneven pavement. Whoever inspected and approved this project need to be, shall we say, reassigned. Or fired.

The bumps in the paving are from rumble strips that ran down the center yellow line. When construction began on the morris road bridge, temporary traffic lights and turn lanes were added to deal with the detour traffic. Since this a temporary situation I think it would be a waste of money to pave over the rumble strips. They would need to be re-cut again soon after.

The center-line rumble strips aren't a big problem. The problem is the uneven washboard asphalt placed where the shoulder used to be, where through traffic is now supposed to go. A half-attempt at fixing this seems to have been made. One of those "road cutting" machines has made a pass over the uneven pavement, cutting off the high spots. It's still a half-@#$% job and dangerous on a 45-mph speed limit road.

I drive past here almost every day. It's difficult to keep your car in the right lane. I can slow down ahead of time, since I know it's coming, but if anyone unfamiliar with the area comes through here, they could lose control at 45mph, cross over the yellow line, and cause a head-on collision (which, at 45mph, is likely to be fatal).

The entire intersection has been paved over with a fresh layer of macadam. Finally. Problem solved.
