On the day the benches were being removed, I spoke with the folks who were doing the job and they told me the rumored reason for having the benches taken away. I then posted the question above just to see if the city would answer it, which they did not. This solidified the fact that the benches were removed to deter people from sitting there who are not waiting for a bus. No city officials would ever confess to such a ridiculous reason and therefore, they chose to ignore it rather than fabricating a false reason.

Yeah, well using a public website to falsely accuse someone of a crime is in fact illegal. It's defamation known as "Libel". I haven't told Caroline about your post and I hope nobody else does either.

Caroline is trying to make our world a better place by advocating for YHHAP (Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project) which provides assistance to the homeless community. She deserves gratitude and admiration instead of false accusations.

Sabrina be careful. Tommy doxxes people- he has nothing better to do with his life and has plenty of free time. You don't owe him anything, don't be bullied and don't engage. It is OK to have the opinion that the city needs to get serious about the homeless problem rather than enable folks like Tommy.

I really don't think I'm a bully. I get involved when I see unfounded complaints against innocent people. My goal is to try to encourage people to do the right research before publicly making accusations that might be false. Many times we see things that appear to be illegal, but often what we see is not how it actually is.

I've read through most of your comments, but I don't remember reading any of them that provided value to anyone. Why don't you join the team and do something that helps other people? I heard the Youth Continuum at 924 Grand Avenue will be converted into an overnight shelter for young homeless people. If you would like to volunteer for this project, please let me know and I can get you in contact with the organizers.

Sabrina --the reason this is an issue is that for those of us who use the bus or who want to sit and rest..we are no longer able to do so.

Nope. Homeless folks weren't occupying those benches. There used to be 6 or 7 people who occupied two of the benches who were not waiting for a bus, but they were not homeless. Since a few months ago those people have stopped hanging out there. There are almost always vacant seats on the benches now which is totally cool, but it's still a shame the city had benches removed to deter people from having a seat.

If you frequent that bus stop often enough, you will notice the lack of homeless people there. Most homeless people occupy the benches across the street and on the Green.

Sorry, issues reported as other city responsibility often are not seen by staff. We removed a number of benches on the green so we could work on restoring them this winter. It is true that in selecting the benches to work on first we did target those which were often used exclusively for congregate drinking and other behaviors that police were having difficulty managing.

Unfortunately, with the crazy winter we had the crews didn't have as much down time for winter projects that we usually have - the slats have been repaired and re-stained, now we are just working on adding in mid-bench arm rests. Will begin replacing within the next few weeks - as we continue to juggle this project with our normal maintenance requirements.

I've noticed some issues reported via this platform sometimes go unnoticed by your department for several months and sometimes years.

There are several different ways to search for tickets that should be assigned to your department. If you would like tutorials on these search strategies, please see the personnel who have been assigned the duties of SeeClickFix administrators for our city.

Another way would be to contact the personnel employed with SeeClickFix and they can provide you with the resources to become more advanced utilizing this wonderful tool.

If this is not possible, I could periodically inform you about what tickets have been created for issues in New Haven Parks that have exceeded a specific amount of time. If you would like to take this path, please let me know and we can discuss remuneration.

This is not true AT ALL!! The benches have not been returned. Even more of them have been removed!! Those who are elderly, disabled have NO WHERE to sit. Rather than target the elderly and disabled and given once again the city has failed to improve life for the residents, maybe removing a couple at a time rather than ALL OF THEM would have made more sense?? There are now as of today only 2 benches along Temple and Chapel St. for those of us who dont hang around smoking weed, getting drunk and sleeping on what seating there is!

It has been 18 months since I reported this issue, but the benches still have not been replaced.

While some benches on the green have been replaced others have been removed as police continue to work to curb behaviors. If there is a specific location in particular that you think a bench needs to be so we can review with the police as we want to modify behaviors/habits before they are reintroduced.
