I agree. This is a problem!

This isn't the sort of thing that the SeeClickFix/311 process can deal with. You can ask Trader Joe's to add more bike racks elsewhere, or try to get the City Council to actually do something & tell GoBike to put its rack elsewhere. But TJ's strikes me as an ideal location to put a rental bike rack.
"Often"? I've only ever seen the daily semi parked there for unloading in the late evening, & I shop there weekly at all hours.

My understanding from elsewhere that GoBike has been installed, and from working in another City, anything installed on the public right of way, as this sidewalk is, must be approved by the City. I don't believe Trader Joes has control or is able to install bike racks or to figure out where they could go. I am asking the City of Berkeley to correct this, or to possibly report that there is a plan to return the bike racks, perhaps in a corral of racks in a parking space on University Ave.?

There is additional bike parking in the Trader Joe's parking garage.

I emailed Eric Anderson, with the City of Berkeley, who told me the plan to add back in bike racks that were lost, and listed the available racks. I consider this particular item "closed", but it's noteworthy that Trader Joe's consistently uses sidewalk space surrounding a single bike rack on University Ave. just outside their door, for their loading dock. The bike rack is regularly blocked and despite speaking with the managers there, they seem to think they must use this space.
