Description
I was wondering if Alexandria had any plans to make the Braddock Rd bike/pedestrian crossings near Braddock Rd Metro Station safer for users?
I use these crossings regularly and frequently see cars ignoring pedestrians as they attempt to cross to and from the metro. The current set up does not seem at all safe. Are there any traffic calming options or stop signals that can be implemented at this busy pedestrian crossing?

Thank you for contacting the City of Alexandria’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services, Transportation Planning Division. We received your inquiry regarding Bike and pedestrian safety at Braddock Rd Metro Station.
Providing safe streets for all citizens is of primary concern to the City of Alexandria. The City has also begun a multi-departmental initiative called Vision Zero, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2028. Transportation and Environmental Services will add this intersection to our list of intersections to examine for possible treatments to encourage better compliance from motorists. in addition, we are forwarding your concern to the Alexandria Police Department for increased enforcement

Sadly I see no improvement at this junction. Every day car drivers cut across pedestrians heading to and from Braddock Metro station. Relying on occasional police enforcement at this crossing is not be a viable alternative to a safe road design.
There are heavily used pedestrian crossings in Arlington County which have lights stopping cars completely (such as near the Westin Hotel on Glebe Road). The crossing on Braddock Rd near the metro is even busier so could benefit from the same type of safety features.
