Description
With construction almost finalized on the entertainment hub of downtown Albany, the Times Union Center (TUC) has installed large video screens on the outside of their building. Throughout the day (and even in the night), ads flash across the screens to promote their upcoming events. Some ads even include jingles to supplement the information being shown.
As a resident who lives across the street, I was dumbfounded to come home after 8pm (when noise ordinances are enacted) to be disrupted by this constant noise. I stayed awake throughout the night until the screens finally shutdown at midnight and awoke to them playing again at 6:30 am.
I've never had an issue with TUC when concerts or sporting events are in session. However on an evening where no events are taking place, these screens seem to display loud and obnoxious music. I can mitigate the flashing lights with black-out curtains, but I cannot solve the unruly noises that echoes throughout my apartment walls.
Despite being a community venue, the TUC should follow city laws and silence their screens and advertisements at 8pm. This issue is affecting my ability to enjoy the comforts of my own home during hours (by law) that should be quite. I urge you to investigate this concern and ensure that the Times Union Center follows Albany's noise ordinances which I've linked below.
