Requests for many transportation issues, including stop signs, curb painting, and traffic calming measures, typically require 8-12 weeks to complete before staff can develop a recommendation. These requests involve review of current plans and policies, compilation of accident and/or other history, coordinating with Alameda Police and other stakeholders, outreach to residents or others who may be affected by the proposed change, on-site data collection and analysis, and sometimes consultation with outside experts.

I will follow up with you about your request when your request is at the top of the queue. Unfortunately, due to limited funding, there is a backlog of these requests and they are being handled in the order of receipt. Due to that backlog, some requests may take six months to a year to complete the analysis and recommendation.

It has been almost 12 months. Is there any update on timing about having traffic calming on SC between High and Broadway. The speeding has gotten worse over the last year. Either another stop sign or 2 or speed bumps/lumps would greatly help. Its the worst near High Street. Thanks.

Is anyone looking into this issue? Cars continue to use Santa Clara as a speedy thoroughfare to avoid Central. I think Google maps must be sending drivers this way. We have noticed a large increase in Uber/Lyft cars lately and many drive without any care about pedestrians or kids since they don't live here. And they have no clue where they are driving and just paying attention to their phones giving directions. Its gotten really bad. Please address this issue before someone gets run over.

Alan - the east end really needs some help with the speeding aggressive drivers. Multiple people have requested speed bumps or stop signs on various parts of the area. Drivers driving down High/Fernside have gotten more aggressive as we have many more people driving onto the island to catch tech shuttles and the ferry. To be blunt, they don't drive like they live here. I have been passed on high street twice at 8 in the morning by Otis by a car that ended up in front of me and went into the tech shuttle parking lot. Santa Clara continues to be a speedway - obviously evidenced by the car that went through the fence at SC and High and ended up IN Lincoln park. Lucky some kid or pedestrian wasn't killed. The east end needs help with this out of control traffic.

Public Works, Alameda Police, and the City’s Transportation Planning Unit prioritize improvements based a location’s history of collisions, police citations, its relationship with existing transportation plans and improvements, cost of the improvement given budget constraints, and suggestions from members of the public, such as yours.
