Transportation Department staff will conduct a 24-hour speed study in order to determine the severity of the issue and report the findings and our recommendations here when completed.

There is a 4 way stop already at 43rd and 17th A/N. But the speeders also cut through 45th Street North from 22nd south to 17th and farther south. Some of the speed humps discourage some of the lead footed drivers.

Location Correction- request a 4 way stop at 46th, and 45th St N. Currently stop sighs are North and South.

17th avenue is considered a "through" street from 34th street to Alternate 19. It was designated as such before any of the current complainers moved to their current location. It is regrettable that those so concerned with traffic did not research before purchasing but it's hardly a reason to inconvenience an entire neighborhood to satisfy one or two people. Speeding can be discouraged by enforcement and would avoid the fuel waste incurred by unnecessary stops and starts.

Just an fyi... all homeowners on the block have signed a petition in favor of some form of traffic control. I'm sure there was a time when 17th was a dirt road, but progress happens.

wasting fuel is hardly what I'd call progress.

Thankfully vehicles are very efficient nowadays.

Transportation Department staff have completed 24-hour vehicle speed and volume studies on 17th Avenue N w/of 45th Street, between the all-way stop at 43rd Street and the speed hump w/of 47th Street. Based on this data an all-way stop would not meet the State or Federal installation criteria. The 24-hour average operating speeds were however verified to be in excess of 37 MPH in this a 25 MPH posted speed zone.

We will therefore schedule implementation of our radar speed feedback sign and request the Police to conduct directed patrols, enforcing the speed limit and stopping compliance at the all-way stop.
