Description
Approaching this intersection at night from the southeast on Mt. Carmel, I wanted to make a left onto North Hills. Directly in front of me, I saw the traffic signal on the curb. I did not realize that Mt. Carmel continues to the west, so when the light turned green I believed I had the right of way, and I was startled to see a car entering the intersection from the other direction.
Perhaps a "Left turn yield on green" sign would help keep unfamiliar drivers from making this same mistake?

Google Street View from a point a block or so south of the intersection. I proceeded to move
toward the intersection (by moving the cursor in front of the presently shown position and then
clicking the arrow that appears to move forward) one click at a time, trying to put my self in the
position of a motorist not familiar with the intersection. I must say my perception of the situation
changed! I can see that in the dark, if you have never been to the intersection before, you could
miss the fact that you were entering 4 point intersection rather then a "T" intersection. the
reason for this is that the roadway bends to the left as you go thru the intersection. If you are
not from the area, you might miss that there is thru traffic and think it was a "T" intersection.
