Thank you for reporting. We believe this needs to be part of a larger conversation about informal memorials in the City and are working with the City Manager’s Office to address. As this is a sensitive topic that requires more thought, we do not plan remove this, or any other, ghost bikes at this time.

There are several "ghost bikes" around Cambridge/Somerville.
They serve 2 purposes :
- Memorial honoring the accident victim
- Powerful visual reminder of the importance of Bicycling Safety

Marcia Deihl's memorial bike is well kept, showing respect both for her and the adjacent community.

As mentioned by the DPW (thankfully aware of how sensitive an issue this is) there needs to be a conversation about this topic involving Mr Louis A. DePasquale (City Manager) as well as members of the community.

I agree- should have a discussion with multiple inputs and a well defined outcome. I usually agree with policies that put a time limit on traffic memorials. This one is s little unusual because many people have found it tasteful and effective in different ways for different people.

What kind of human being would take a "ghost bike" memorial sign down ?
