34th Ave between 34th street and 37th street is five blocks long. Just over the last hour I have watched five vehicles going 40 to 50 miles per hour headed west from 34th st. According to the drivers manual an unmarked neighborhood street is 25 mile an hour street. There are no postings and when one says something to a violator they just throw a bird out the window. Most of this type of traffic comes from people cutting through the neighborhood to avoid the light at 38th I have lived on this section for 35+ years and have repeatedly asked for speed bumps and speed limit signs to no avail. The city just makes excuses like calming that this section is not long enough for speed bumps. That is a pile! 35th street between 32ave and 34th ave is two blocks long and has two speed bump. How does that happen? There has never been enough traffic on those two blocks to warrant speed bumps yet they are there and 34th Ave keeps getting ignored. There is a lot of foot traffic and children playing on and around this section of 34th Ave. The least the city should do is post speed limit signs.

A review of our files determined that the last time the Transportation Department had a request to review speeds along this section of 34th Avenue N was back in 2011. Based on 36 MPH average operating speeds over 24-hours a petition for speed humps was issued, but never returned.
We will restudy and if it qualifies again, with average operating speeds over 35 MPH, someone will have to contact me and volunteer to circulate a petition.
I will post the results here when completed.

You obviously didn't talk to me, who is responsible for conducting speed studies and determining if qualifications have been met for speed humps and issuing petitions. So, let's wait for the results of the study and I will post the results and if met we can communicate for the petition.

We have completed 24-hour speed and volume studies on 34th Avenue N between 35th Street and Ithaca Street, in this a 30 MPH speed zone. The results are as follows:
Eastbound = 721 vehicles; average operating speed = 32.14 MPH
Westbound = 743 vehicles; average operating speed = 31.96 MPH
A total of 23 vehicles or 1.6% exceeded an enforceable speed over 40 MPH.
Based on this data I can not recommend speed humps, as the 24-hour average operating speeds recorded did not exceed the 35 MPH threshold set by Council for consideration of speed humps.
We can come back again at a later date should you notice a change in driver behavior in the future.

There is no reason why you cannot post the speed limit signs in this road. They are posted often on the same avenue between 49th sit and 40th. But there are not any in this section!
When the study in 2011 was done there was detection equipment put out. There has been no detection equipment put out since and I have been looking especially since this complaint was started... I want a copy of this report because there was no recent study done and you are trying to pull a fast one. I also want to know where this alleged petition was sent because I doubt that it was ever sent. “a petition for speed humps was issued, but never returned.”. And the one I signed was just one that the neighbors started and gave up because your department told them that there was no money in the budget even if it got approved. Don’t get comfortable and think that you are going to sweep this under the rug again; I’m not going to let that happen this time.

You seem to be totally missing the point. This is not about speed bumps!!!!
34th Ave is posted at 25mph all the way from 49th street to 40th street with the total of 10 speed limit signs. There are no speed limit signs between 34 st and 40 st on 34th Ave. It dose not make sence that the whole neiborhood is 25mph but this section section of road is 30. If it is indeed 30 miles per hour as you say why it is not posted. So put some speed limit signs up!
