This is a safety issue and should have been phoned into public safety 203 946-6316 as soon as it was noticed.. You can then post to alert others and to have a record it was called in. Your post should mention it was called in. It has been around five hours since this was posted and it still has not been acknowledged. Hopefully no one was injured or vehicle was seriously damaged. I would like to know why when it is a safety issue people refuse to call public safety and post instead.
This issue was addressed by the Greater New Haven WPCA.
The Greater New Haven WPCA does not use SeeClickFix as a reporting tool. These type of emergency/safety situations should be called in to your local emergency numbers as XYZ had stated. This was posted several hours prior to myself seeing this online complaint. The W.P.C.A. dispatched a crew at that time located this manhole which was closed at the time and resealed the cover. In the time it took for this type of notification to be seen someone could have been seriously hurt.
The Greater New Haven W.P.C.A. maintains a 24 hour emergency number which should be used for reporting these type of situations.
I stopped posting ANY issue on SCF. Totally not worth the scolding you get for doing so.
Hey, WPCA, why not actually monitor SCF for posts? That way you can catch issues and thank posters for letting you know about them. Makes for better PR and uses a tool that the rest of the community would like to see as a central communications clearinghouse.

WPCA was just stating the way it is. It is very simple when it is a safety issue you call as soon as possible, you can then post to alert others and have a record it was phoned in. When in doubt on who to call, dial public safety 203 946-6316.
I didn't have time to clarify this issue in the moment as I was standing in the middle of the road to take the photo. 😉 I actually re-seated the manhole ("person hole"?) cover myself, but thought the ticket would still be helpful to have it looked at to make sure no further remediation was needed. Thank you.
@XYZ, like it it or not citizens of New Haven seem to be near universally steered to SCF for any city reporting issues these days. Believe me, I have my own problems with this approach, but I've been referred to SCF for so many issues recently that it's now my go-to initial point of contact with the city.

The fact is the city does not monitor this site 24/7 and if it is a safety it must be called in as soon as it is noticed, Maybe you will see things my way if someday you spend a week in the hospital because you were involved in an accident because a stop sign was down and nothing was done because the city did not see it on See Click Fix. People please use the phone when it is a safety issue.
Also I would like to know who referred you to See Click Fix to report safety issues.
I would also like add the following is from See Click Fix when you choose the topic Streets/Bus Shelters/Pavement Markings.
If there is a problem with a Stop Sign, a One-Way Sign or a Do Not Enter Sign, please call the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department directly at (203) 946-8075 between 9 am and 5 pm, M -F or call the New Haven Police Department after hours or on weekends at (203) 946-6316, before posting the issue in See Click Fix. After doing so, please indicate that you've called within your See Click Fix post, so other members of the public know this has been called in. Thank you.
