Per dep dir DPW, Howard Weissberg, UI or the phone company own the poles. Currently the City doesn't have any "pull" to have these "cut & kicked" poles removed. City Engineering can be contacted though if there is a street light still attached as that has to be moved by the city. Obviously everything must be removed from the pole before the owner will take it down. The incentives are low for the removal of these poles unfortunately; maybe there needs to be a city ordinance to speed up this process? Mr. Weissberg didn't want to press this issue right now as the City has other issues they'd like the utilities to deal with first. I'll keep this issue on the burner though.

Regardless of who owns the poles, they often hold equipment owned by other companies. So, for example, a UI pole might have AT&T and Comcast equipment on it. The pole can't be taken down until everybody has come and removed their equipment, and the logistical problems involved often hold up the process.

Each pole has an identity plate on it somewhere, with the owner and pole number. If you take these down and report them to the corresponding company, as well as the city, something might get done.

I moved away from that house. But I don't think the poles were replaced.
