Tagdot, I think we are talking about the same thing. So I just drove through them again. Counted the cars going through. Literally 2 go through the light! Causing a dangerous situation now too, as I watched as drivers just drove through the red left turn light, obviously out of frustration.

Thought I would find something about this. People at work were talking about this too, how terrible the lights are/have become. Told them to call city hall and to go to this site.

Wait until snow plows and cars start crashing into those curb bump outs on Canal st.

Good morning guys the installers have to make a program change here, they go by what the engineers tell them. There obviously will have to be some changes made. I have contacted the installers and they will be making the adjustments. City Electrician John Giardi.

I agree they really did take into consideration cars driving down canal st . I think someone looked at the original plans when the street was opened. Stop making the roads smaller on purpose. Bikes should follow the traffic laws and don’t need separate lanes for two bikes a day. Think about the cost to maintain the lines...remember grants are tax money so they are not free.

Yes, it seems as the OP put that the traffic guy Matt Smith is only thinking about pedestrians and bikers and not the actual TRAFFIC. I don't think he drives.

And that would be on the Mayor for hiring a traffic coordinator who doesn't actually drive to work!

Hi guys in Matt's defense he did not set the timing on the lights. Mass. Bay Electric was the installer and I believe their was an engineer consultant that recommends the timing. It is frustrating to all of us as well. They will be readjusted 1 or 2 more times until they get it right. City Electrician John Giardi.

With all due respect as the city electrician shouldn’t work that falls under your jurisdiction be inspected by you and signed off by you? It should done right the first time and if adjustments are needed they should be done immediately; not waiting days for complaints. You know they city’s traffic woes better then most officials so I would expect that you would stand there and make sure this was done as close as possible then fine adjustments made later. Lastly the road engineering is suspect. We know why you keep making the roads smaller, but some intersections are just obnoxious. One example I see is how small you make the mouths of the streets. Lets look at Aborn at Boston; the reason Why I use this street is there is a school down the street and busses need to turn on to Aborn and when traffic is leaving Aborn busses cannot make the turn and drive up on the opposite sidewalk. That means fire trucks cannot make it and that slows the response times down and sidewalks are not designed to hold trucks. This needs to be fixed and we need to make the roads wide so emergency vehicles can get through. I really do not need an engineering degree to figure this out.
