More trash

Yet more trash.

Thank you for reporting! Public Works has an illegal dumping team whose sole job is to respond to illegal dumping reports throughout the City. On average this team removes 1,200 pounds of trash from public property every day. We strive to respond to all reports in a timely fashion. If you see someone dumping illegally please report the incident to the Vallejo Police Department.

Why submit this as anonymous when your comments and additional photos have your user name posted, slight flaw in the system.
I walk by that property frequently and this is the first time I have seen it overflowing. Got to give the person credit for trying something. Perhaps they are saving up to prove a point.

Agreed that the inability to comment anonymously is a problem, but in this case, Anonymous isn't me, I do walk by this lot regularly, and like most folks these days, I usually have a phone handy. I have been snapping the trash pile growing over several months. Recently, I've also seen that like most front yards on the walk-to-school route, the empty soda cans and juice boxes have started to accumulate around this lot. I spoke with a Recology employee recently, and I can confirm that a Recycling bin, no matter how well meaning the "Trash Here" sign, will never be emptied by Recology.

Thought you might be Theo Bevis as the coincidence of the anonymous report and additional photos were at the same time. Just thought folks should know, Especially if you’re trying to avoid friction with a neighbor.
By the way, since this is on private property, “a Code Enforcement officer will have to be sent out to inspect the possible violation(s)”. Surely, it is on the property owner to empty that into proper Recology bins for pick up. At least some trash wasn’t thrown on the street. Knowing this town, kind of amazing that it was used at all.

The placing of the bin and the sign, official or not, is a clear invitation to dump trash. This location is a regular stopping place for school buses, and on the route for children walking to and from school, As such, it is already a regular dumping place for pop cans, lunch boxes, and such. Placing the bin here may be a nice idea, but whoever did that has a clear responsibility to regularly empty it.

Really? I walked by there today: the signs are still there, the bin is still there. Its still full of trash. There is a large plastic bag full of trash beside it, and a cardboard box on the other side. Please see the photographs above for comparison.

Vince is probably referring to all the other dumping on that block. This is on private property and therefore “a code enforcement officer has been/will be assigned to see the possible violations.....” plus you really have to look over the fence to see this issue. So, Code Enforcement, what do you say?

The situation was photographed - from the street - and described - from the street - clearly over a week ago. There continues to be trash reported but still uncleared on this same block (for example, corner of Kentucky Street, and top of National Alley). Yet not until now is it time for a Code Enforcement Officer to arrive and look over the fence?

And a week goes by... the bin is still there, the sign is still there, the trash is still there, and - who'd have guessed it - that entire block of Branciforte, from Kentucky to Ohio is now lined with new trash piles. And, on the bright side, the pile of sneakers has been picked up from the top of National Alley.

And another week goes by. A couple of things were cleaned up. A couple of things got worse. The abandoned truck is still there. The abandoned boat is still there, a now it's leaking oil. The sign inviting trash is still there, along with the bin of trash it invited, and the number of pop cans and fast food containers on the lot continues to increase.

.. And has anyone noticed that the blacktop is so thin on Branciforte that the century-old, red brick pavers are starting to show through. In some cities this might be a prompt to think about historic preservation of a classic neighborhood. In Vallejo, not likely.

Today, SeeClickFix has sent me a message reminding me that this issue has been outstanding, unfixed for thirty days, and suggesting that I may wish to close it. Why not? It seems that constitutional city government in Vallejo has ceased to exist. This city is governed by employee unions, business pressure groups, and a good, old fashioned, buddy system. SeeClickFix has no more influence in City Hall than our irrelevant ballot boxes.

Today... The sign is still there... the bin is still there... it is still full of trash... there is still a filled trash sack beside it... there is still an empty cardboard box in front of it... Yes, just like in the photograph from a month ago.

And yes, the boat is still there... still leaking oil... and the green pickup with flat tires is still there... and the out-of-town green trash can is still there... and the Amazon shipping box is still there... and the tree trimmings are still there... now accompanied by a broken down fence... and the pane of black glass is still there, now in a thousand pieces.

And today, one month later... "A Code Enforcement Officer has now been assigned to inspect the possible violation(s)"... and the issue is CLOSED. Possible violation(s)? CLOSED?

And so it goes.

And censorship continues

Is there something else that can citizens do to address this city-wide issue? May be the Code enforcement officers need more resources or something?

I'm voluntarily closing this issue, that I first posted back in December last year. It seems that the absentee property owner has enough influence at City Hall to keep his unofficial trashcan and TRASH HERE poster in place. Unfortunately, they don't have enough influence with him to get him to haul away the trash.

And so it goes.
