Description
THE SPEEDING PROBLEM ON BURKE DR. HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. PROPLE IGNORE THE "YOUR SPEED" SIGN, THEY HAVE NO CONCIOUS ABOUT OTHER HUMAN BEINGS OR ANIMALS. WE SERIOUSLY NEED SEVERAL SPEED BUMPS ALL ALONG BURKE, ALONG WITH STOP SIGNS. THERE ARE NO SPEED LIMIT SIGNS GOING SOUTH ON THIS STREET, AND THE 15mph "WATCH FOR CHILDREN" SIGNS ARE IGNORED. OUR CITY "FATHERS" HAVE IGNORED MY PLEAS FOR YEARS. LETS GET SOMETHING DONE.

Good Evening User 1318324,
With regards to speed humps:
Burke Drive is not a neighborhood residential street. It is considered a neighborhood “collector” street and carries more traffic than a neighborhood residential street. Speed humps will push that higher traffic volume onto residential streets as drivers seek routes around the speed hump(s).
As a collector street, speed humps will also interfere and slow down emergency response vehicles trying to get to neighborhood streets and the neighborhoods that such smaller streets serve.
The area of Burke in question is a steep gradient. In winter weather, vehicles run the risk of losing traction as they slow down for the speed hump and sliding backward onto other vehicles climbing the hill.
In addition, drivers who insist on speeding can hit a speed hump: lose control; veer off the side of the road or in someone’s home. Burke Drives steep gradient and drop-offs on the west side, could prove to be deadly should someone lose control.
To highlight the speeding concerns on Burke Dr., a radar sign between Hill and Mesa was installed. The sign was installed there and not further up the hill by the church, because of the vehicle and pedestrian congestion at the foot of Burke Dr. near A&J Produce and the Burke/Aztec intersection. A speed limit sign was also clearly posted in front of the radar sign.
The installation of speed humps must be done by a petition of support from neighbors, including the four homes at the intersection, businesses on the bottom of Burke, residents on the top of Burke and residences west of Ford off the Hill and Mesa side streets. The petition must be presented to your City Councilor for consideration.
We agree the safety of pets and children are extremely important and the Police Department will continue their efforts to enforce traffic laws throughout the City. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding this matter please feel free to contact me directly at 863-1254. Thank you and have a good day.
