I'm not sure who exactly could be held responsible for this, but between the boarded up property on the South side of the first block of Canner, the parking lot that gets no use at the corner of Nicoll and Canner, and the Lehman Bros. property that isn't doing anything, and the overgrown weeds and trees and the nips and the trash and the drug bags I'm really disgusted with the Nicoll/Canner intersection and the first block of Canner Street. Is there nothing to be done about this? Am I the only person annoyed about all this?

I agree that there should be better maintenance of these properties.
What can be done about the empty parking lot and Lehman property? Hopefully they will go back on the market and be redeveloped into housing once it makes financial sense for a developer to do so.
As you may know, several other properties in the area were redeveloped a few years ago when the housing market was stronger.
Of course it is a bit of a chicken and egg situation - unless the neighborhood addresses the blight, drug bags, unruly 60 mile per hour traffic and lack of any crosswalks on Mitchell, horrendous conditions for walkers and cyclists along Willow Street, etc., developers will be less likely to want to build here.

It is odd because obviously Canner Street is, generally, quite nice indeed. It's this one block that somehow can't get its act together. I would really, really like to see that change. What does one have to do to inspire the owners of, say, the little house near the corner of Nicoll and Canner to take proper care of their property? Can anyone convince them to sell the place if they don't want to live there or be landlords? Please??

Hi everyone. Thanks for underscoring the problems on this block. Unfortunately the housing development has been indefinitely delayed. The current owners have repaired the fence (it was fallen down) but there is still graffiti on the fence. There is a separate owner for 14 Canner. I'll work with Carmen Mendez from LCI to address the problem and as things develop keep you in the loop.
