This is a "T" intersection, which means that crossing is apparently legal here. The fact that no crosswalk is striped exposes the city to significant liability issues.
Also, a crosswalk here would help make the entire area more walkable. Ideally, it should be raised, in order to make the district here more accessible to and from the Yale campus.
