Baltimore Pike is a hazard already and that is without billboards. Try finding a small business establishment on the Pike while driving. It is very difficult because you can't slow down to read signs because there is a good possibility that the person behind you will plow into you. Then after you finally find the place, try getting into and out of it safely. Now, add to that, huge billboards and the chance of accidents will increase dramatically. This is strictly about greed.

They need more of those eletronic bilboards on the pike. They really keep people informed. I say put them up.

Besides, I really don't like other people telling me what I can and can not do with my property.

Because the Pike is zoned commerical, meaning its a place for businesses. These businesses advertize, so its only logical. It would also generate tax revenue for the Twp. this would help us residents by helping to keep property taxes down. Also if you have property that could hold a billboard then it would be a way to earn some extra cash.
Just because someone doesn't like the look of them, that doesn't mean we sould ban them.

Many many years ago before the Mall in Springfield was built, the taxpayers were told that the Mall would contribute so much to the tax base in Springfield, that all residents would benefit by having the mall built. Ha. Do you know what the real estate taxes in Springfield are? Too high. Also, let's put greed aside and go for safety. The Pike is, and always has been, extraordinarily dangerous to drive. Try and earn some money in a different way that would not cause an undue safety hazard to drivers.

I actually do not go to the mall because I am on a very very fixed income and just get by financially. I do not understand something.......do you want to put a billboard on your front or back lawn?

Living here right off Baltimore Pike my taxes are almost $8000.00..tell me if this is a commercial zoned area taxes would be A LOT lower..so bull with these stupid comments about how Springfield could use Bill boards and how we would benefit from it ( there's NO WAY they would draw business) The township is fighting against this, and if we care about this area then we should not want this either. If you want a billboard, put them in front of your property!! That will draw attention!

i dont live in Springfield but i do agree that there should not be Billboards on Baltimore pk. I dont like billboards at all. they are eyesores. LIKE THIS BIG GLARING WORDS. AND PICTURES taking up space to advertise what? some other useless product we dont really need , fast food ? or a political Ad. there are many other options for advertisement.

I have property along the pike and I am a resident. I think the signs are a good idea to generate revenue. They are not a safety issue as you seem to think.

When you tell someone to "stop cyrying" they don't normally respond in the best fashion. My apologies if you were being serious. (FYI - Itdoes not come across as serious with the terse statements).

As a resident I definitely see a safety concern, especially with digital "BB's". Its like putting a TV on the side of the road. On a straight empty highway perhaps they make more sense as they refocus people. On a local highway with people turning in every direction, pedestrians all around - More billboards just aren't the answer - Forget the fact that many see them as clutter. Safety alone is my concern, especially with a young child in my car.

But hey, why stop at BBs? Let's wrap school buses in ads, and why not just start wrapping entire buildings in ads? Hell, I am sure you can get someone to manufacture a film that covers brick and mortar just like a Septa bus (assuming it does not exist already).

Its a slippery slope and again, I will not shop at any establishment that happens to advertise on any of the new signs if they go up. My $.02.

I think the billboards will make the pike look trashy. Travelers may perceive us as a city, which we are not, we are the suburbs.

No more visual pollution on the Pike! It's been going downhill for years, and now this? When other areas are considering improvements, green medians, landscaping, uniformity of exterior signage some people want to put up multiple electronic billboards?? "Say it ain't so!" The company that promotes these wants to make money, the Township might even want to make money --but that's why the country is a mess. Greed! Don't replace quality of life with money.

There will be a Springfield Zoning hearing on Thursday, June 24, at 7:30 pm..at the Springfield Township building. We need to get our neighbors, etc... to go to this meeting, and oppose this issue. As a community..we need to come together!!

Thanks for the info Lori, living in Delco my entire life and now as one of Springfields newest residents (we make settlement the 21st) ...This would be terrible. Looking over news articles...400 accidents from 2004-2008 isn't that already bad enough, I bet the guy defending the signs is from Bartkowski. They have no regard for community and make me sick.

One more thing...As a new home owner I need a living room and dining room set. I was seriously considering going to Klaussner for my sets as Diamond Furniture and Raymour and Flanigan have let me down in the past...But seeing as though Klaussner Furnishings owns one of the poles and is a proposed site - They just lost out on a few thousand dollars. As a young "30 something" with lots of new home owner friends in the area, I will simply mention to my friends that they shouldn't shop their either. A simple suggestion from a friend goes a long way.

See if you had a billboard advertizing furniture you would know where to shop.

The one word I can spell is BIG. The signs are going up. Legally you can't stop them. They are within township code and state law. So just accept them and move on.

BIG will force the township to spend alot of money that it doesn't have to fight a losing battle. The township was warned about the loophole in the ordinance and did nothing about it. Legally BIG has every right to put the billboards up. So you can thank the twp. commisioners for thier in-action.

Money is not the main issue when you talk about safety. Baltimore Pike cuts through a RESIDENTIAL neighborhood. Stop trying to make it the next 69th street already! These signs will RAISE my tax dollars as people who fear safety will avoid the pike, stop shopping there, thus lowering the tax base for the township. BIG is a Town Killer! Take your blinders off. I don't hate signs, I just hate them in this area...

WOW... Ferraro Cadillac should have stuck it out just a little longer....as the Pike goes down hill...and the new Walmart opens, they could have been selling Escalades left and right......

If the signs go up on the pike I will do my shopping elsewhere. Good luck signman, look at 69th street now...It used to be the epi-center of business, now it does a fraction of the business it used to.

For whomever it is that wants BIG Billboards up on their property or along Baltimore Pike to make money, here are some other great money making ideas. How about a Cell Phone Tower in your backyard , for kids to play on? Or, better yet; a transformer with high voltage power lines? How about placing a billboard on your car? Or, making your car a billboard? Why don't you move to Atlantic City, NJ the capital of tacky, low-class neon digital billboards? Or, get a job with Donald Trumps organization, he loves billboards.

You are sooo right on this area w/ these billboards! It's a shame because the only thing this is about is $$$$$$$$$, not what will happen to this area! I don't think this will happen any time soon, if the residents keep on this..and we don't shop at the businesses that are advertising them, hopefully it won't happen. Than we have to see if there are any township officials , politicians, who are crooked and when it comes to $$$$ their "IN"!

The billboards will happen. The are no laws about putting them up. the township officals should have seen this coming and taken steps to prevent it, but they did nothing. BIG has the money to continue this until it becomes a reality. And It will Happen. Please don't blame the businesses for putting them up because most of them lease the property, so you will be hurting the wrong people.
The people you can thank for this are the local politicans, they had the chance to prevent this and did nothing.
