Description
I was involved in an accident with injuries on 2/1/17. I was heading south on bangerter and hit someone who was going west on 114th because they had not cleared the intersection. The light does not give people heading west on 114th enough time to clear the intersection before they turn the bangerter light green. I saw there was a previous request to fix this over a week before my accident. Please fix now!

For some reason UDOT is resisting putting up a second set of signals just like on Mountain View, where the space between the two sets of lanes is just as big. It's so easy for people to get caught up in between Bangerter's lanes (e.g. due to slow moving traffic) that once they approach the second set of lanes they have no idea if it's safe to cross. The only way to know is to look to the left and glean at the Bangerter traffic light, then inverse the logic (meaning you see a green light which means you *should* have a red light). It's extremely easy to accidentally proceed, and Bangerter becomes a death trap because you can't assume a "green" light means that the crossing traffic has any clue. No amount of clearance time can fix that. I'm glad they finally put up more "no left turn" signs, but it's not enough because like I pointed out earlier, all it takes is slow moving traffic for whatever reason.
I'm glad you're ok. I can't believe UDOT is allowing such a dangerous setup when there's such an easy fix, especially after so many accidents. Just set up a second set of lights, just like each and every intersection at Mountain View is designed.

Very sorry to hear about your accident and happy to hear that everyone is doing okay. Safety continues to be our top priority and we monitor and assess traffic in the area daily to look for opportunities for improvement. The timing between light cycles has recently been adjusted to allow increased time for drivers traveling east-west through the intersection. Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments.
Thanks,
Melissa/ HDR
