Description
The city has recently started connecting Barren Fork Blvd to Youpon Dr. This will connect several neighborhoods and Williams School off Barren Fork Blvd to the large subdivision of Lake Forest. There are currently a lot of traffic problems in Lake Forest (speeding throughout the subdivision at all hours of the day and congestion at the main entrance in the mornings). If Barren Fork Blvd is connected to Youpon Drive it will make our traffic problems in Lake Forest even worse as it will increase traffic. Please consider making the connection for emergency vehicles only, our subdivision should not be a cut through that will increase traffic and speeding. There are a lot of children in Lake Forest whose safety should also be considered.

Huntsville Engineering stated on February 6, 2018 that they would review and consider concerns and follow up. That was over two months ago and still no update here.
However, last Tuesday April 10, 2018 Councilman Will Culver hosted a Town Hall Meeting at the Lake Forest clubhouse to address this issue with the many concerned residents of Lake Forest. I would estimate there were at least 200 people there and not one person was for the connection, everyone was against it and made that very clear to Councilman Culver.
There is also a change.org petition for this issue that has over FIVE HUNDRED signatures: https://www.change.org/p/please-make-the-connection-of-barren-fork-to-the-lake-forest-subdivision-for-emergency-vehicles-only
Councilman Culver also brought up this issue at the Huntsville City Council meeting on April 12, 2018 and said he felt he reached an "amicable" solution with our community.

And someone said on the Nextdoor app that there is a new subdivision also plan to open and use with this extension.
If the neighbors of lake forest have issues with speeding you can request speed humps or other traffic calming devices.
Or request some radars set up by hpd.
You will prolly be more successful with the traffic calming devices than the extension they are building for emergency only. Don’t see that happening.

Forest than vice versa. If it does become a problem ask for speed humps or traffic calming devices.

Kind of funny how everyone is all up in arms about the barren fork addition! I live on the east side of LF and have to deal with a high amount traffic and speeders everyday. The exact same thing some of you are worrying about are things we deal with on Tall Oak and Shadow Creek.... I wanted speed humps or bumps put in on Shadow Creek to slow people down but was very rudely attacked by opposition. People basically told me that their cars tires and suspension systems were more important than our families safety. We have seen many people driving down Shadow Court at very high rates of speed... sometimes as high as 50 to 60 mph.
I am not opposed to the connection. I am in favor as it may lighten the traffic load on our side of the community. I'm sorry to be so cynical, but when I raised traffic concerns I was less than politely shut down by my "neighbors".

Not all of them, if it's the request I'm thinking of I asked you if you had contacted Riley Security and you replied and said they stated they had no authority to do anything about speeding. I am not and have not been against speed cushions. They don't damage car tires and suspension systems if you go over them slowly, people that are against them just don't want the inconvenience.
If I remember correctly it was also stated by others in that request that you had been derogatory toward the residents of Shadow Creek or their subdivision on Nextdoor.

We have never interacted before. So, Idk who you were addressing previously. It was not on this forum either. Nevertheless... The less than understanding or caring attitude came from a large number of LF residents.
Please complete the pass through!!!! It will allow emergency access vehicles and residents to get to those other communities and William middle school easier and faster.

The road was opened in September 2018 and we continue to monitor traffic counts in this area. Final traffic counts will be performed upon the completion of Martin Road and Zierdt Road widening projects to address any traffic concerns that may occur.
Thank you,
Engineering
