On June 7, 1965 Margaret K. Brooks sold United Illuminating Company “two certain parcels” known as #190-194 Greenwich Ave. See land records Vol. 2277, page 87. [continued with my next post:]

On June 29, 1966 United Illuminating Company [aka UI] sold 190 Greenwich Ave. to Liberantonio & Yolanda Sorbo. As part of this same transaction UI granted the Sorbos a 10 foot-wide by 150 foot-long right-of-way on UI’s lot known as 192 Greenwich Ave., said right-of-way running along side of & parallel to the Sorbo property, 190 Greenwich Ave. See land records, Vol. 2309, page 510.
HOWEVER, UI STILL OWNS THE ENTIRE EMPTY LOT KNOWN AS 192 GREENWICH AVE.
Because the Sorbos have been trespassing on the remainder of UI’s lot for an unknown period, there is a possibility that they now can claim a right of way—but not ownership—on all of UI’s empty lot known as 192 Greenwich Ave. However, this is an issue between the Sorbos & UI—and is irrelevant to the matter at hand—i.e., an illegal auto junkyard in a residential zone.
It took me 90 minutes at the Hall of Records to figure this out—and I did it for free! However, since your bloated government hasn’t been able to figure this out for decades, focusing its attention instead on ever-new ways to empty your wallet, I’m going to walk everybody through what needs to happen next:
• LCI needs to contact the property management division of UI and order them to clean up their property known as 192 Greenwich Ave. Said order should include the customary warnings about potential fines, etc. blah, blah, blah.
• LCI needs to issue a cease-and-desist order to Michael & Claudio Sorbo concerning their operation of an illegal auto junkyard in a residential zone, as a deterrent against their re-creating this mess after UI removes it.

If UI wishes to sue the Sorbos for the cost incurred by UI to clean up the Sorbos’ crap, that’s UI’s business—but is irrelevant to this matter. Capiche? Then friggin’ move it, already!!!!

Thanks for your concern. At present the Sorbo property looks worse than I can ever remember. The view from my property is that of a junk yard. LCI has never affectively followed through on any of their threats or promises or imposed fines. Please keep me posted.

This issue was posted: 2010-06-09 before SCF became part of our daily lives.

In the past this property was cleaned up and progress was being made. Given your statement we will visit this property and the Sorbo family.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME The house to the left of this property is much, much worse. There is a large commercial building in the rear of the property, cars, tow trucks, and cars with no license plates are ALWAYS PARKED AT THE END OF THE STREET. The owner of the property has been operating an illegal auto repair there for years - no permit! Kris Sainsbury's husband did the same for ------ over 30 years, for the last 15 years that he was alive he used the 5 car garage in the rear of the property to operate an illegal car repair business. The ground all around 209 Greenwich which is owned by the Sainsburys is saturated with dirty oil, where he used to dump the used oil over the fence. There isstill a pile of tires that has been there for years. All of this illegal car repairing activity with NO ZONING PERMIT in 2 OTHER PROPERTIES and you are picking on neighbors who, ok, are a little nuts, but thier mess is fenced in. This whole thing is very wrong. If you are going to go after people go after EVERYONE that is doing the same thing, don't just pick on one person. And no, we cannot close this!

This has gotten better but it looks like the illegal busines has moved to 216 220 Greenwich. Trash tires it is a mess. it is disgusting that this has been going on for as long as it has. What about Paulina she a big landlord in the hill somebody call and do something about this. kids playin throwing stuff at cars it is rowdy. Dirtbikes got better but the it got a way to go.

Our Housing Code Department is working on these properties. We are in touch with the property owner and their attorney regarding this issue. This is complicated private legal matter, but it is being addressed.

5 1/2 years after this issue was opened here--and 30 years after neighbors first complained to the city about it--it's still not fixed.
