  This path is heavily used by schoolchildren that attend the local schools (Jefferson, Crowden, Berkeley School, MLK) and it is dangerous to allow an encampment to be established due to the human excrement and trash that will build up.

  Seems to be getting worse to me. More and more trash. I can’t tell what is actually being done to resolve the problem. I know that the city cleaned up a camp at city hall a few weeks ago. Can they clean up this camp too?

  The Santa Fe railroad used to run on what is now “West Street” in Berkeley. The railroad abandoned these tracks and the city has been converting them to other uses for many years. This section of bike path from University to Virginia Gardens is part of that conversion. Soil testing during the work to build from Delaware to Virginia Gardens revealed heavily contaminated soil. Some mitigation was done, but the neighbors were warned not to plant food crops in the area or have kids play in the dirt.
