Description
Construction blocking the sidewalk. The sidewalk is partially open, but not enough for people on foot and wheelchair to pass each other. This breaks the city rule on safe construction detours, bad for ped/bike.

As you know bikes aren't supposed to use the sidewalk...
Would you like it better if the City just had the contractors shut the sidewalk all together and make us use the other side? That is an option while buildings are being constructed.

I'm not, but you do come across as massively uninformed... so I sent you some info.

RP: but Ruth does know the laws regarding bikes on the sidewalk.
If she does then why does she imply that "ped/bike" share the same space? They don't and it is foolish to imply that they do... as she does in most of her posts.
We have certain rules in this city (as well as others) that do allow for construction to enter into the sidewalk area (and heaven forbid the parking area). It depends on the construction and what permits one buys as to what is allowed. Construction is disruptive, but we live with it because ultimately it improves our city.
How would you suggest that we build "0" lot line structures without being able to close the sidewalk? We live in a city... not suburbia.

In 2017 I and other residents worked with Oakland staff to develop updated construction traffic control guidelines, to ensure that safe and convenient bicycle, pedestrian, and transit access is maintained throughout construction of major development projects, as well as smaller capital improvement projects. These guidelines are available here: http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/pwa/documents/memorandum/oak062315.pdf.
Despite this guidance, many construction projects are still failing to meet these standards, either via improper control plans or a lack of enforcement. Ruth has volunteered to report these issues to help community advocates follow up on them and hold the city to their approved standards.
Your comments on these reports are not helpful, and are unnecessarily antagonistic toward Ruth. If you don’t like the reports then you are welcome to ignore them, and I would appreciate you not adding replies unless you are providing details which might help to address these traffic control problems. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
