  After the Director of PW, and head of Transportation, were contacted in late December 2017, the "usual suspects" showed up after Jan. 1st, admitted there had been a "design oversight" , and set about quickly to provide a slope down to the new handicapped crosswalk /street level (the reason for the previous 1/2 yr delay). They fixed it, and now it's been sitting there again for several months, with those stupid Sidewalk closed signs about a whole block up the street where no one even understands what they're for (that've been trashed and laying in the street, totally ignored); and the Caution tape roping off the sidewalk use at that new intersection. Meanwhile, I continue to see mothers pushing strollers or carrying little babies with small child walking alongside the mother having to figure out what the heck is going on in that intersection as they maneuver through it. They still have to get the stroller down from the curb on their own, towing a kid and pushing a stroller at the same time, and furtively make a dash across Market when they see both the northbound and southbound cars stopped. It's hard to watch that, yet this is continuing after 1.5 years. I will contact Dir. of Public Works (Mr. Mitchell) and the head of Transportation (Danny Lau) who were very responsive the last time I complained. It's so sad to see a mother with little kids making every effort to obey the signs and cross safely, and there is NO slope for the stroller, no lights for the pedestrians, and Market Street is the Autobahn and so dangerous for little kids and a mom trying to cross. When people try to follow the rules they should be supported, not thwarted.

  This item has had a number of SCF requests. In the past on issues with similar lack of action I've looked up their numbers in SCF (by viewing history and by location, or those you've voted on), then adding them to the most recent post. Then copying the item into an email to relevant officials in the city. Dan Kalb's office has routinely 'lost' repeated emails on the same issue, so this helps, and he's now asking for our vote. Bring it up to him and maybe with a hashtag or on his FB page.
  I'm working on an issue like this (for years) so I'll let someone else do so on this one, if inclined.

  There were a couple of City staff there Tue 2/20/18. Here's the update from Danny Lau, @#$%'t Dir., Bureau of Design and Construction, OPW:

  The work at the new island at the intersection of Adeline and Market was re-designed. As a result of this re-design, new and different traffic signal poles are required. Unfortunately, these poles have a long manufacturing lead time of about 2 months. The contractor has ordered the poles but the removal of the existing crosswalk/traffic signals and final improvements cannot begin until the new traffic control systems are constructed to allow for a planned and organized switchover.
  
  Staff will also evaluate adding some signage to make it clear from afar that pedestrians should not travel through the new island area to cross the street.

  I got the same info from Danny. It has been about 6 weeks since I heard that the traffic lights would take 6 weeks to me manufactured. Curious to know where we stand now.

  It looks like since this report was submitted a new sewer inlet was installed at this location, and I haven't seen as much flooding since. If this issue is now resolved please feel free to close it out, thanks!
