Please put a light here so people feel safer

And please put a brighter light on 41st just down from Webster. This light cycles on and off, and we need better lighting on this corner to prevent muggings.

I live on this corner.. Living here with all of these muggings makes me feel like a fish in a barrel. Please Please put up this light. You will certainly save a life. There have been 3 or more muggings and one almost car jacking in the last few days.

I was mugged there last weekend in almost total darkness. This area is a target, and more lights in this area would definitely make the area a less attractive crime location.

A dear friend of mine lives in that area. It saddens me to think she feels so unsafe in her neighborhood. There is a simple soloution, please help and put the needed street lights up. To feel so vulnerable is such a horrible feeling. Once again Please Help.

I used to live right by this corner and moved because of all the muggings. I still miss living there! Please make the area more well-lit so others don't make the same choice I felt forced to make!

Please put up more lighting at this intersection (although down 41st is incredibly dark too and needs lighting). I have 3 friends who have been mugged at gunpoint at that intersection and know of many people I don't know too. It is the major hot spot in the area for armed robbery. So please for public safety, install a new light at 41st and Webster. Thank you!

My good friend was beaten on this corner and his phone was stolen from him. Please put a decent light on this corner and a camera to record all the ghetto activity happening there. Not all of us are lucky enough to live in a nice crime-free area, but that doesn't mean our Oakland loving friends can't live without the fear of being mugged every time they walk out the front door.

My son was mugged at this location and was robbed of several important items. Please place appropriate lighting and security monitoring equipment at this location for the benefit of all Oakland residents.

It's hazy because of the concussion, but I was mugged at gunpoint a couple months ago right here. As I recounted my story that night and the next few days it became clear that there is a huge problem in this area. Just through my social network I know of at least 5 people who have been robbed at gunpoint in a 2 block radius (within a 2 month time frame). The cops were there within 2 minutes but these guys are professionals who poach people getting home from BART after dark in a nice area of Oakland. I'm happy to see this website although am not sure what is required for any action. People have subsequently joked around about starting a militia but it's not funny-- one day people are going to die here and odds are we will know them.

Adding my name to those requesting a street lamp. I live at 4120 Webster, and am now taking cabs after 7pm whenever possible from BART. while I feel awful that the cab drivers who wait for quite a while at the BART stop waiting for a fare are stuck with a five dollar passenger, the number of muggings on the corner of 41st and Webster no longer make it sensible to walk alone at night. Other times I stand on the street corner waiting until there actually is foot traffic to walk up Webster. At the very least, additional lighting could make a huge difference to pedestrians currently getting surprised by muggers hiding in the shadows.

I wish to add the request to improve public safety by adding a street lamp to this busy area. It will increase busy and help prevent violence in the area.

Oakland...take care of your residents!! We want to be proud of our city, but it seems that crime is on the rise..we need you to do your job.

Can you please put up a light so my pregnant cousin doesn't get jacked near her own home? FYI she's a professional, a homeowner & a taxpayer, not some derelict living in the jungle.

I was mugged at gunpoint at the corner of 41st and Manilla 2 weeks ago to tonight. 6:30pm two guys waited and jumped out of a car. One approached me with a gun and the other was behind me the entire time taking my backpack off and sticking his hand in my pocket. What a horrible helpless situation to have gone through one block away from my home. Please put this light up AND a camera. Police says they think its the same 2 guys so let's get these idiots.

this really needs to be done right away. Several people have been mugged right here over the past year. And by several I mean at least a dozen. This is a SAFETY issue!

I'm the one who submitted this request to PWA in the first place. I had no idea it would get so many votes! How many votes does it take to get a new streetlight in Oakland? The world may never know - until I call them up myself, I guess.

I personally also LIVE at that corner, and want a huge new light put in there!!!! I have witnessed a robbery and attack on a couple (during late at night) where 2 men held a 9mm glock to a woman's head right near my apt, front window. JESUS CHRIST! Get it together, this insanity , crime and violence has gone on long enough. Decent people and residents on WEBSTER street between 40th and up to 49th or so, all have had to deal with crime, vandalism, muggings,violent/ mental transients, ,dd homeless recycle'r men with stolen shopping carts who are drugged or drunk and often nuts, and so forth!! What the hell does it take to feel safe here, anymore? Seriously? We have become targets for the thugs and creeps and homeless men who have nothing better to do than rob others and break into homes near this exact intersection.

Please, City of Oakland, this neighborhood needs MORE LIGHT. I am scared to walk at dusk, let alone at night. Live here for walking distance to BART and now I can't walk anymore. PLEASE INSTALL/UPGRADE lighting in this location (and throughout the neighborhood!).

Yay, Oakland, we're at nearly six years turnaround time on putting a light in place.

The ninth anniversary celebration is barely two weeks away!

On googlemaps.com, type in the field, " 41st St & Manila Av, Oakland" and a map of the location will appear with a left side panel showing the actual visual location. If you click on the visual location, that scene will become the main picture, and at the bottom of the picture are angled directional pointers. Click on the pointer for the direction you want to cruise to. Click and hold anywhere on the picture to rotate the direction you want to view, even across the street. Also the bottom right is a "+" and "-" feature you can click on to enlarge the scene. Noticed there are two (2) existing street lamps installed at this intersection, at opposite diagonal corners.

Near downtown or uptown Oakland, it has been emphasized to the local businesses to install their own security cameras, especially in Chinatown. It appears to be working to deter and identify the people committing the crimes, and also the victims. The local news stations including channels 2 and 4 (over the air free broadcast--not cable) have been good at airing more local news. Each crime must be reported to and documented by Oakland Police, especially if you are a victim. If you have a clear video and/or photo of the suspect to provide to OPD, with the time, location and description of the suspect, the better. The photo can come from your residential security camera, a neighbor's or store, from your own, a passerby etc.

Talk to those who have been affected, concerned and potential trusted neighbors, about restoring-improving the standard-of-living in the area and beyond. Consider the "Neighborhood Watch" concept.
Turn on the front lights at night (use a timer or photo cell dusk to dawn device) and use efficient and cost effective LED light bulbs (check out the local Dollar Store and 99 Cents Store).

Try to promote the concerns and issues beyond OAK311.com which specializes mostly in city maintenance issues, by contacting upper city management and TV news stations. A couple of refrences are: officeofthemayor@oaklandca.gov (Office of the Mayor) and 7oys@kgo-tv.com (7 On Your Side).
