This path should be a total embarrassment to the city! It's been deteriorating for well over 6 years! You are absolutely right! This path is currently used for accessing the schools and as such, is 'counted' when calculating distances for school transportation qualifying purposes. It is plowed! Which actually adds significantly to its deterioration! In addition, when the LED street lighting plan was implemented, it was lit. So is it a street? I have been informed that it is protected wetlands, and as such, any improvements requires Conservation Commission review/approval? I have also been told that the DPW has been planning a new pumping station for the Walnut St. entrance to the path, and that they would make 'improvements' when that job is taken on! This has been ongoing for over 5 years! That children are expected to walk to school via this route is shameful! People have taken to placing boards, logs, tree branches and other items (I've even seen mattresses!) across the open water in order to pass without getting wet or muddy.
