We need to another overpass, to relieve the traffic buildups @ Springfield Rd. & State Rd. It should not take someone 20 minutes to get out of their neighborhood.
I think the problem is the traffic light and the lane assignments. The first problem, is the amount of time southbound traffic on state rd/us 1 has a green light, and the extended time between green lights. It is way too short, I've counted a minute and a half from red to green, and twenty seconds from green to red. Northbound has an extended light for no reason, leaving very little time for southbound traffic to have for green.
I'd love to have this fixed but how do you suppose we will pay for this? They've already invested money into Septa. Are you prepared to pay higher taxes for another overpass when the proper fix is extension of the turn lights? Not trying to be snippy or anything, just saying you are right; it should be fixed just not with an overpass.
I would not have invested that money into Septa, I believe it was just wasted stimulus money, to make the stations look prettier. I would like to see the ridership numbers for before & after. Doubt there is going to be much of an uptick. I don't think you can fix this problem with extensions of the turn lights, because then I think the back-ups on State Rd. would get too bad. I would certainly be willing to give that a shot; however, before I invested money on an overpass, so I agree with you there.
Matt77- Northbound Route 1 has an extended green because their is very little traffic turning left from Southbound Route 1 onto Springfield Road (toward cliftion heights). You don't get that extended green going south on Route 1 because there is a lot of traffic turning left from North Route 1 to Springfield road (toward broomall).
The solution is to ban left turns from Route 1 to Springfield road. Route all traffic onto 320 north only one traffic light back. 320 is a two lane highway and could easily handle the traffic.
Why is there so much northbound Rt 1 traffic trying to turn left on Springfield Road? The bulk of it should have turned left on 320, leaving only those exiting the shopping center, or those living locally along Springfield Rd needing to turn left there. Definitely not worth major construction!
Eli, I do agree that there is more traffic turning left NB than SB, but not enough to cause a backup all the way to Rolling Road. If one or two cars has to wait until the next left turn signal to avoid a half mile backup, I'm all for it. And I do agree that traffic should be diverted someway to sproul road...I just can't figure out why so many cars turn onto springfield. Again, an overpass might be overkill, but adjusting the lights and lanes needs to be addressed regardless.
Thank you..I can't believe how this area is going down the toilet, between Gigantic billboards, and now a Walmart. I might as well move to the city...I'll save a lot of money in taxes!!

Evidently Marple owns the property where Walmart is proposed. Springfield owns the entrance to the shopping center. There is no traffic study planned and there are no plans to change traffic patterns for the entrances.
I couldn't agree more. only thing worse are the idiotic people who attempt to take a left hand turn out of the gas station at this intersection onto springfield road, and even more so the idiotic people who attempt to let them out and cause traffic and all kinds of problems. it's like when an idiot on my show doesn't make it a true daily double in a category that they've been killing...it drives me nuts and i want to clip their toenails!
i dont think an over pass will solve the problem. what the issue is, is that this is a meeting point for 2 major road ways. the issue is that cornner gas station. wee need PENNDOT to place those Plastic poles in the center yellow divider or take away that entrance on W. Springfield road. on another note Springfield road should be widened down near the Field to accommodate traffic making the turn onto state road.
It could be solved by light timing. Adding 10 seconds to green lights in both directions would allow more cars to go thru. It takes 10 seconds for one car to go thru when it turns green. when cars are up to speed and moving a car per second can pass through. the green lights in both directions are just a bit too short.
there are also options for traffic light sensors on the pole that monitor ez pass and license plates that have smart timing and the lights will be longer with traffic and shorter when theres less. these are a much better option then the traditional street timers or rush hour variences. these units cost $25k each but would be less then any major road construction and go up in a few hours.
I would like to know why Its A 25 mph speed limit where the police station is located, and 35 mph on Springfield Road ? I live near Norwinden on Springfield rd. Spoke with police and I was told that is just the way that it is. I would like to know why cars and trucks are never pulled over on Springfield road, not 1 in the year that I have been living in my home on Springfield, why do we not have any police to pull over these speeders, texting, 50 mph 60 mph ?? Perfect place to sit for a police car is in graveyard 400 east Springfield , besides Drunk drivers!!!!! Easy 1 to 2 Thousand dollars a day could be made in speeding tickets, why is their not anything being done?? I Challenge the police to do their jobs, hand out some speeding tickets, gain the respect of your neighbors !!!!!!

Will Penn Dot make these changes? I doubt it.
