Description
The traffic pattern change (no right turn on red off of westbound Ewen on to Howes) needs some police enforcement. Drivers are completely ignoring the no right turn on red signs. This morning, as I was walking across the crosswalk on the east side of the intersection across Ewen (the light was in my favour, drivers on westbound Ewen had a RED light) I counted no less than 5 cars that didn't even stop for the red light. PLEASE get the police out there in morning rush hour, between 6:30-8:30 to issue some tickets and enforce the traffic rules. It's very dangerous to be a pedestrian in that intersection.

I have had had issues with folks running this light as well.
And then I ran it. Twice. Yikes.
That is so embarrassing.
I went back yesterday to take a closer look. I spend my whole work day on the road, and I've never seen a no right on red intersection violated so much. So I had to ask myself why?
I believe it's the signage. The two pictures I have attached show the same intersection from two different points of view.
As you approach the intersection, the sign that is closest to ground level, where most drivers gaze is directed as they scan the intersection, that sign is obscured by the trees.
If the intersection is clear, one is tempted to roll around the corner, as they may not notice the sign up high in this image.
While the signage is relatively clear as you are at the stop line, but only if you are specifically looking for the signage that you may not know existed in the first place.
I have no excuse for myself, as I know about the sign. But if you add a sign directly above or directly below stop light (see blue arrow) affixed to the post on the corner. I believe we will resolve the issue.
That is the signal of choice for one turning right to observe. I think everyone will see the sign if one is located there. And then we will filter out those who are willing to obey the law, and those who need to have their driving habits tuned up with a ticket.
