Description
It is great that the crosswalk here has orange flags now. However, this still does not help crossing 185th on 8th Ave NE. Cars simply just don't stop. This happens to me ALL the time and I have seen other folks wait like 5 minutes for a safe time to cross. It would be nice to have the flashing crosswalk here like they put up on Meridian and N 195th St

Message from Traffic Engineer:
Thanks for writing in with your concern about pedestrian safety. 8th Ave NE and N 185th Street will be improved by Sound Transit’s Light Lynnwood Link Light Rail project, however specific details regarding these improvements have not been determined yet. The start date of construction related activities at this location is also uncertain at this time.
Between now and the start of significant construction activity in the area, staff will work with contracted King County crews to retrofit the existing overhead sign with the message “State Law / Stop for Pedestrians” sign. This is a standard sign that can be utilized since there is already an overhead structure and hopefully will help to convey the legal requirement for drivers to stop for pedestrians.
At this time, pedestrian activated flashing beacons will not be installed as there are other locations with pedestrian collision history ahead of this one and there is very limited budget for these kinds of project. For background information, the flashing beacon at Meridian and 195th was funded by a grant.
If there is a particular time of day or day of week that the failure to yield is most problematic, please submit details to our Shoreline police traffic webform for potential emphasis patrols at: (http://www.shorelinewa.gov/government/departments/police-department/traffic-complaint).
